Yummy! I loved this place. It's not fancy--very casual, but the perfect place to get a quick lunch or late dinner. I had the shrimp taco, and boy was it good. The salsa was really good and made the taco. My sister in law had the fish taco and said it, too, was really good. For dessert, we had Mexican fries, which were really, really good. Like sticks of funnel cake with raspberry jelly as the "ketchup". Sooo good. Service was great--very fast and our waitress was really friendly.

Mahi tacos with a Mexican coke. Can't go wrong. Great people watching. Sit on outside bar.

Absolutely one of the best places to eat in Key West!!! Great food, fresh ingredients, a must for any trip to Key West, for lunch our a casual bite to eat. And you can't beat the view for people watching - we ate there twice the food was just sooo good!!!!!

Our hotel gave us free taco or free beer coupon. So we headed over to this place with our empty bellies. Large portions, Open kitchen and great use of space it's small but great for people watching. Salsa was fresh and we watched them cook the corn taco and then fill them with fresh ingredients.

We were looking for an inexpensive dinner option in Key West. The food here was really tasty and the servers were friendly. The tacos were unfortunately bland but they had an extraordinary array of hot sauces with varying degrees of heat at each table. Husband found a new one that he loves. i would go for the nachos which were delicious instead of tacos. Also the enchiladas looked good but we didn't have them when we went.

Great little place for some awesome Mexican food. If you can get a front row seat, you get some good people watching as a bonus. We ate here twice this week, my wife, who loves fish tacos and is a little suspect when looking for good ones, loved these! I being more of a basic food kind of guy ordered and enjoyed the fajitas . Very small place, busy and fun. If you are lucky enough to get Jackie as your server, it will only make a good thing better, very friendly, efficient server. We really enjoyed this place, as you can probably tell, as we went back for seconds.

I enjoyed Amigo's so much after the first try that I went again the very next day. I had the Square Taco Platter both times and tried a combination of beef, shrimp and fish tacos. They were awesome. It's a really small place that might seat around 25 ppl at a time. They have seating that faces the street so it's a good place to people watch in Key West while enjoying the weather.

Best fish taco's I've had on the island so far. We found the food to be great, the low key people watching atmosphere fun, and the hot bar very satisfying. This is a great place to go for an easy going meal. Be careful though, it can get expensive if you suck down the $3 Mexican style glass bottle real sugar soda's.

  • Koonj B.

It was okay bland and over priced food. Many other choices around which are so much better at this beautiful island

  • Randy L.

Ok, I'll counter all the lousy reviews here with 5 stars because you people (all the haters) obviously have no clue when it comes to Mexican food! Amigos is worth going to for the tortillas alone which are as authentic as it gets! I'll write a better review when I have time but man...those of you that gave Amigos one star really need to stick with Taco Bell!

  • Dan B.

Great people watching while eating, the food is good, the beer is cold but everytime I go there the service stinks and is unfriendly (unless the owner or manager is walking around helping out).

  • Jessica A.

Stopped here because some other people insisted it was amazing. It was ok. I had three tacos (carne asada, carnitas, and chorizo potatoes) and I'd maybe get the carnitas again. Chips were kind of stale and service was mediocre.

  • Bill L.

Some of the freshest and best mexican food anywhere. We had a small order of nachos with chicken. They came covered with cheese, jalapenos, and chunks of tender, succulent chicken. Main course, fish tacos - one of swordfish and two with dolphin. All excellent, though I would recommend the swordfish if its available. Fun seating that overlooks the craziness of lower Duvall street, and good margaritas. And don't forget their slogan, "one you've lost your reputation, you can live quite freely"

  • Carol N.

We're not keen on the square tacos, but we've found that the nacho platter with chicken and a side of guac and two salsas is plenty of food for two people. The food is very fresh, the beer is cold and the location is fantastic for people watching since it's across from Captain Tony's and the front is completely open-air seating. We ate there twice last week we liked it so much. The other mexican restaurant on Duval, Old Town something is awful, awful, awful. Go here instead.

    (5)
  • Tessie B.

Location is excellent. Service is quick and the food is good. The chicken quesadillas were delicious and HUGE! On another note, they claim their square tortillas are amazing, but I thought they were ok. I don't think there's a problem with round tortillas - I think i actually prefer them!

  • James L.

Smaller menu, but does not lack on flavor. If you like the bigger name places like Chipotle or Qdoba, you will love this restaurant! The burritos here are very similar to the aforementioned, but are more "authentic" tasting? It's hard to explain, so go experience it for yourself!

I'm impressed. I wasn't sure about Amigos. I just followed my lady and her cousin in here for a bite. I ordered a real cane sugar, Mexican Coca-Cola in it's glass bottle (which was a plus) and a refreshing beer on tap. To eat, I had the fish of the day (wahoo) on their hand made corn tortilla taco. My wife had Mahi Mhai on her's. I'm not lying when I tell ya these were the best fish Tacos I've had so far, and blow the others outta the water! They were fresh, meaty, and delicious on those hand made tortilla with a tropical sauce (I believe mango) inside. This place gets my thumbs up for good service too. Enjoy.

A perfect mexican cuisine, slightly different from the usual American-mexican restaurants. Liked their wide variety of hot sauces and the unusual squared tacos. And most of the portions were so big that it was little difficult for everyone to complete it. One of my friend ordered chicken fagita which tasted very bland and uncooked. Tacos and burritos are safe bet there.

I recently visited Key West for work. I was there for three days and ate lunch at Amigos everyday. Their burritos are advertised as big. They aren't kidding!! So delicious! Their tortillas are made in house and are so naturally tasty. Great prices! Beautiful girls on the wait staff. Interesting art work. Check out the framed art made by the customers. The restaurant has large open bars facing the street so you can people watch. Love this place!!!

  • Shannon M.

My food was awesome. Refried bean burrito loaded with jalapeños was really good. Not sure what the bad reviews were about. I went to this highly rated place called Bad Boy Burrittos and it was not as good. This place rocks.

  • Patrick H.

Handmade tortillas are their claim to fame. They are corn - not flour tortillas. The carne asada was good. My friend had a fish taco and a beef taco. He recommends the fish taco over the beef.

  • Dara S.

Vegetarians, vegans and carnivores can finally chow down together in one place! Loved the location on Greene Street--great for people watching from the open air bar and much less noise than Duval. Ordered fish tacos with mango chili sauce and others in my party had shrimp tacos, pork carnitas burrito and lobster tacos. All great. Try the Mexican Coke sans high fructose corn syrup. Fab! Yes, this place caters to veggies, but it still serves meat and seafood and won't disappoint the carnivore. Great guacamole and chips. Reasonably priced menu. I'll be back!

  • Sam H.

Best Mexican in the Keys. Amigos was amazing. We stopped in for a late night quesadilla and were floored. They had a tremendous selection of sauces and the Mexican bottled Coca-Cola (none of that American HFCS-laden junk) was icing on the cake.

  • Chichi L.

BEST TACOS I HAVE EVER HAD! Which is a bold statement given that I live in San Francisco. I tried both the veggie tacos and the fish tacos, super fresh veggies, the fist was cooked to perfection, and the homemade salsa was to die for. I have also tried their veggie burrito and their chicken quesadillas - which were both delicious, however I strongly recommend the tacos. Due to having no liquor license, the margaritas on the other hand weren't great, so stick with beer (both tap or bottle) or wine. Other than that, the place itself is cute, the coffee is good in the morning (one of the only early morning coffee places, cafe con leche is strong and yummy), all around great place. A must do in Key West!

Keep walking! My husband and I saw a photo of some tempura lobster tacos in a menu book, but couldn't remember what restaurant. We googled "lobster tacos Key West" and ended up at Amigos. What a bum steer! This place hands out coupons for a free taco with any entree, but the fine print says fish/lobster tacos not included. They boast homemade tortillas made fresh every five minutes, but fail to mention they are corn. When I asked our waittress if we could get flour, she said no. I asked if they could cut a large flour burrito tortilla in half, but she said she didn't think so (really?). She told me just to order a burrito, which I didn't want. Finally, she grudgingly "asked the kitchen" if they could tolerate the inconvenience of cutting a flour tortilla in half, and lucky me, they agreed. The lobster was not tempura, it was grilled (which makes it chewy). The tacos were full of cabbage, which was not a good choice for a romantic vacation. We ordered cokes first, and for almost $2 each, received one 12 oz can and one 10 oz bottle. No refills. The conch fritters were more like hush puppies or rice balls with 2 pea-sized morsels of conch hidden in the center. We also asked for 2 of their "22 oz." beers in souvenir cups and ended up with 2 plastic 20 oz cups with about 18 oz of beer in each. The total tab for this utter disappointment? $56!!! Also worth mentioning, the waitress was a total B and we couldn't hear ourselves think over the rowdy drunken bachelor party crowd that invaded the 4 tables behind us. Amigos slogan is something like "once you ruin your reputation, you can live quite freely." Put another way, "If you want good food and good service, don't stop here because we don't care!". Amigos was the worst part of our trip, hands down. If you're going to serve crappy food with a crappy attitude at a crappy price, don't call your place "Amigos."

This place sucks. We ordered the pork tacos and beef tacos with rice and black beans and also a side of salsa and chips. First off the corn tortillas are supposedly made here...not so sure about that, if they are they need a new recipe. Both of the tacos are supposed to come with some kind of sauce but you can't taste it or see it. The beef was by far the worst, it was sopping in this bright orange oil but had barely any flavor and a smattering of cheese and lettuce. The pork tasted like stewed pork, no other flavor with again a tiny bit of cheese and lettuce. Don't let the pictures fool you the tacos are TINY. The beans were ok they tasted heavily of garlic but not in a bad way. The rice was...surprise!..flavorless. The chips were fine but the salsa was sooooo bland. I would never eat here again, It was absolutely and utterly NASTY!!

Super atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and really good food. The salsa was impressively good. Would go back again! And it's totally cool that they have bar-style seating facing the street.

When we arrived in Key West it was a Thursday night and rather late so surprisingly not that many restaurants were open. We didn't want to just grab a slice of pizza so I checked on Yelp for places that were still open with decent reviews and found Amigos! They were closing in about 30 minutes so we had to order it to go but I got the chicken taco and grilled shrimp taco on corn tortillas. You could tell the corn tortillas were freshly made there and the ingredients they use are also extremely fresh and traditional Mexican, not Tex-Mex which was a nice surprise! The tacos were a bit small but were filled with ingredients so I would probably have ordered a third knowing their size since I was starving. I tried my friends carne asada burrito which was huge and it was delicious! I usually try to not visit the same place twice when on vacation but later that week I returned for more when looking for a late night bite. The second time I ordered two chicken tacos and got a side of the chorizo potatoes which were crispy and absolutely delicious!

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday and were immediately seated at a counter/bar stool setting. There is no a/c here, but many fans so you are comfortable. Our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered the kitchen sink nachos (three meats) for $15. It was enough for two people to share as a meal. We also wanted to try the tacos because they make the corn tortillas on site and they are square shaped. We had a fried fish taco and the carnitas. Both were very good. We were too full, but they do offer 1/2 slice key lime pie slices from the two major competitors on the island for $7. It's a great way to do a comparison. I would definitely return again.

  • Lisa P.

I had to knock it down because the carnitas were very salty. Not good at all, inedible really. I also felt that the price didn't match the food, atmosphere, or service. Not interested in going back. Eta: And now I'm sick. Fabulous.

  • Ted C.

Honestly, it was just kind of ok. We put our names for a table-which was about 45 minutes but they told us to come back in 20 or so. Why not say 20 minutes then? We were seated in the far corner near the utility sink and it was so crowded that our server often just came around street side to check on us. The square tortillas were no better than a round one and the fillings were all a little on the blander side. I used mixes of all the hot sauces but aside from the house ones none of them were really exotic and some of them required refrigeration which made it a little weird but I wasn't the worse for wear. It's just an okay taco joint that happens to be a very well trafficked area in Key West. Location beats food in this case.

This was one of the first places I tried in Key West and it was so good I intended to go back, but there were just too many places and too little time for us. I like the way the seating is set up with two rows of bars facing the street. I think there was also some tables, but I can't fully recall. We were not super hungry, but it was good to order a couple of tacos and beers - it was just enough and man was it good. We had the carnitas, the fish tacos and shrimp tacos. My favorite was the carnitas the pork was tender and flavor full - just melted in your mouth. They were all seriously delicious. If it wasn't spicy enough or you wanted to add more flavor there is a selection of mild, medium and hot sauces that you can't add. The beer selection was good and I like the plastic cups they were served in - you can see the saying on the cups in a pic on here. I didn't order them, but the nachos looked massive and they gave you a ton of toppings - that alone could probably be a meal. Like most good mexican places the prices are pretty inexpensive, which always is a plus in my book. When I make it back to Keys this is one of the first places I will be returning to get some more of those delicious tacos!

  • Mitch M.

Very good tacos. I had the hard shell mahi tacos. The seasoning was just right and the fish was cooked perfectly. The beans and rice were ordinary but adequate. My wife had the chicken tacos on the corn tortillas and loved them. The place is fun, funky and open air - no A/C.

    (4)
  • Dirty S.

Hot garbage. Cotija cheese does not go on tacos. I dunno where these people have had tacos before but this is not it. The square tortilla concept is cute but the flavors that resemble "close to Mexican food" are def not there. Hey tourist. This place sucks.

Saw this place while walking down Duval Street, and it caught my attention because it was packed! I'm glad it did because my dinner was excellent. I had a burrito and it was great. It's a casual dining experience but perfect for a place to eat before bar hoping down Duval Street, I suggest it for lunch or an informal dinner. Staff was friendly and food was great.

    (5)
  • Caitlin R.

Small space, but worth the wait. To avoid the wait, go late night after some beers on your walk home. Chips are a la carte. Food is delicious, but I wish they had a grilled or blackend Mahi Mahi, instead of fried. Service was great. Logo is fun. Most, if not all places in Key West offer a Souvenir cup, this place had a pretty cool one.

  • Shreyas G.

Good service and that's the only good thing about this restaurant. The beer selection is not good and food is just a mess. Either food has no favor or does not taste good at all. Surprised by the basmati race being served as side.

    (2)
  • Stefani D.

Tacos are delicious! Chips and tortillas are freshly made and really great. I wouldn't order the Guac- maybe try the salsa. Guac tastes like wholly guacamole and looks like it too. I would recommend this for small groups, bar seating for all.

  • Jason T.

We went here for lunch. Yes it is small and does not have air conditioning, the wait staff seemed a little rude and somewhat bitchy, but they were what seemed to be at completely full capacity and the beer wasn't what you would call ice cold. But I swear to god they had the best beef tacos I have ever eaten. The handmade little square tortillas were full of beef, cilantro, cheese, salsa, guacamole, and these awesome ass little pickled onions. I will definitely go back and drink there cool beer and deal with their waitstaff just to have those tacos again. Thanks Amigos I haven't been able to enjoy a taco since.

Stumbled in to get out of the heat of Duval street. Had nachos and burritos great piles beef nachos were served in tin pie plates generous amounts of meat freshly made chips fantastic authentic food great affordable prices. Open air plenty of fans give it the cantina feel the service was great coke is in glass bottle American or Mexican!

  • Melissa J.

Well, Amigos definitely has the people-watching thing down...a great place to sit and eat and check out what's happening on the street. It's open seating, so you may stand for a few minutes waiting for a place to sit, but hey, it's a TACO joint, it won't be long before a space opens up. The service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. The chips and guac were good, guac was fresh with a nice sprinkling of cilantro on top. We ordered the shrimp, fish, and carnitas tacos and they were good, but the fish and shrimp tacos had cheese on them. Really, cheese? What I was craving was some lime on them, or even just a few lime wedges on the side so I'd have the option, and maybe a little cilantro...something to differentiate them from the carnitas. All three tacos had the same cheese/lettuce/cabbage topping and lots of it, and similar spicing, so while it was good food, it was a little, well, boring. Next time I'll try a burrito...

Disgusting. We ordered fish tacos. They were awful. There was like some sort of cheez wiz or melted velveeta or some artificial bright yellow cheese on our tacos. Fish was tough and the tortillas were not tasty at all. Service wasn't good. We ordered a side of chips and salsa and the waitress brought it over with our tacos. The chips weren't good at all. My margarita didn't have any tequila in it and the seating wasn't great either. I would never ever go here again.

  • Gregory P.

I went to this place twice during my stay in Key West. The first time I got their burrito and the second time I got their tacos. Though they boast their square taco, I it to be rather bland. It was by no means bad, but compared to the myriad of other places in Key West that serve superb food, it did not stand out. Their burrito however was quite good. I would recommend this over their tacos any time. As an added bonus, the service was fast and pleasant, even with droves of hungry patrons all vying for the same thing. I would go back if/when I visit Key West again. Stop in if you are in the mood for a quick, cheap bite.

Looked like a cool place, but food warn't very good. Nice location and I liked the feel of the restaurant, but the food wad disappointing.

  • Chris L.

Good tacos, excellent salsa (the hot salsa really is hot), fast service. The outdoor seating is great for people watching. And it makes me happy that the tortillas are square; the round tortilla is so tacky and over done.

    (4)
  • Mummy D.

Our server was clearly not happy with her career choice. Never smiled, said hello or made eye contact. Brought out incorrect food twice, then never came back. Walked right past us on our way out, not even a thank you for her very undeserved tip. Food may be 4/5 star if the only Mexican you've ever had is from small town Ohio. I live in the southwest, with dozens of fast to fine Mexican dining options and this place is no bueno. We had tortilla soup, quesadillas and three different tacos and it was mediocre at best. One star for Mexican Coke. One star for selection of hot sauce to douse food in.

  • Cheryl L.

I loved this place. Some friends of mine went on a girls trip to Miami which included a day trip to Key West. After a day of shopping and walking, we saw this place and decided to stop here. We were not disappointed. The margaritas were great and the food was so fresh. I ordered the fish tacos and added some of the mango hot sauce from the table--delicious. I didn't have any of the artificial cheese that the previous poster had on their fish tacos! The open air bar seating made for some great people watching. The only issue was that it was super hot and if we hadn't been sitting right next to a small fan we would have been screwed. But hey, it's Florida in the summertime so I can't do too much complaining! Overall, great place to have a bite if you're down in Key West.

We ordered delivery and it came..... Ice cold....... But most of my conch friends seem to rave about this place, I'd imagine eating on site would be a much better experience.

Love.This. Restaurant. The service is good but even better is the food. Fresh, has imagination, and really good. I had the Salad with chicken. The mix of greens, shredded jicama, radishes, pumpkin seed, red onion and other ingredients was truly flavorful and satisfying. The musc was a great background, hip and current alternative. Go there and eat. The atmosphere is relaxed and seating arranged so you can see busy Duvall St. at it's most colorful.

They make their tortillas on site here, which is pretty cool. Was pleasantly surprised by this place - good food and an impressive selection of hot sauces. What's more, Amigos is also a great option for vegetarians and vegans, as their rice and beans contain no animal fat. Yum. Thanks, Amigos!

Amigos... how do I love thee. Let me count the ways: 1. You're Mexican 2. You're thoughtful: you sit us facing outside so we could people watch the great people of Key West 3. You're humble: You look like a low key bar and are by no means frou frou 4. Your food is amazing! The steak quesadilla had actual steak! I'm not talking about barely there thin little strips a la Taco Bell style... I mean like succulent-1/2 inch-wide steak! I hope I seen you soon when I'm back in Key West and that this new amistad works out!

The food was pretty good for being in the heart of a tourist destination. The tacos are made of square flour tortillas. The beans and rice that come with the platter were tasty.

Food is still amazing - had the conch tacos, so yummy - but have to give it 4 stars this time around because the waitress we had was not so great. We went kinda late (11PM or so) and the girl that took our order had such an attitude - acted like she was annoyed that we came and we were interrupting her conversation with another waiter or a friend (can't remember). So aside from that, the food was delicious as always!

Great food fast services and very good price. i was there twice, once in December 31 and last weekend, memorial day weekend. No excuse for slow or bad services. This place is great, the ppl, the food, the timing. If you go to key west and you want fresh fast and good price food, stop by.

We ate here twice in 3 days. Sassy, yes, but this place is stinkin' delicious! It's like Chipotle but oh so much better. Tried a few of the beefy options for tacos and nachos, also had the shrimp tacos and everything was perfect. The salsa was tasty. Prices were reasonable. I only wish they would've thrown in some free chips with our meals. Oh, and.... they have Mexican Coca Cola! Which, to the unititiated, is like the crack of Cokes.

Ok gotta be honest never had fajitas made with pot roast as the meat! Not a fan! Beware nothing fried on the menu. If that works for you, the service was good. Staff was friendly.

  • Devon H.

If you are looking for some good food, in a laid-back atmosphere this is the spot. It's right in the middle of the Duval craziness so make sure to get seats on the deck, facing the street. Then order up a few tacos (which are served on homemade corn tortillas), some beers or ritas, and sit back and enjoy the Duval show. I recommend the fish tacos, taco salad or beef tacos. YUM!

  • Charlie K.

Cheap and delicious, what more could you ask? Oh... more hot sauces you say? Yeah, they have that too. Tons of choices in fact, which was awesome. I managed to get a seat out front facing the street. There's nothing like people-watching, and no better place to do it than Key West. Service was great, food was good, and the atmosphere really fit Key West well without being over-the-top. I ordered a couple of fish tacos and split an order of nachos with someone and that made for a good-sized lunch. It's a definite stop if I ever make my way down to Key West again.

Stopped by Amigos on my recent trip to KW...the plac was fairly empty (it was around 1030pm). The place looks like a little shack but with bar-stools for the majority of the space. The waitress brought us the menus and pointed out to the wall menu. The wall menu has all the basic items from the menu, where you can add meat/sea food and tailor the food to your liking (pretty cool!!). Our group of seven ordered drinks, Key West ale is what I had. Must have for beer drinkers... Not being so hungry, our group ordered the main course, which was mainly chicken quesadillas, black beans and rice combo. Grilled shrimp w/black beans and rice. I ordered a veggie combo with fresh fish. Food was pretty good for the price they charge. For the seven of us the total came out to about $90 (drinks included). One of the good things about this place (apart from the food) is the ceiling fan in the main dinning area, its just out of this world.. all in all - good place for late night runs...ask for their sauces, they have a huge variety of sauces from mild to "fire in your belly" ones...

The Salsa is good, that's about it. My friends and I (about 8 of us) were on a trip to Key West for a friend's 30th birthday and we visited this place for a quick bite before sunset at Mallory Square. It is important to note that this place is located in Key West between Sloppy Joe's and Captain Tony's (two of the most famous bars on Duval Street), and has a steady stream of customers who stumble out of these bars. That was not the case with this group, it was early in the evening and we had just arrived to Duval Street. I placed an order of 20 tacos to go. The wait staff was courteous but insisted that we not wait in the restaurant for our food, so we waited outside on the patio. I paid for the tacos (before we received them, which I regret doing). A fellow patron was apparently bothered by our large group on the patio and complained to the manager, who then proceeded to act incredibly rudely towards our group, for absolutely no reason whatsoever. We didn't make a mess (we didn't have any food, only water cups, which I cleaned up), we weren't screaming on the streets or louder than you would expect 8 people to be, we didn't dance on tables, we weren't cursing, we didn't harass other patrons or pedestrians on the street. We decided to leave after the manager treated us so rudely. Unfortunately, I had already paid for the tacos or I would have just left. The whole kicker is that our order WASN'T EVEN CORRECT. I only ordered 20 tacos (10 shrimp, 3 fish, 3 brisket and 6 chicken), so it shouldn't have been that difficult. We decided just to eat the tacos and not let that experience ruin our vacation. I have to say the actual wait staff was not rude, they were very professional and nice and seemed to be just as confused by the manager's attitude as we were. Also, the salsa was very good. The tacos were average. They weren't terrible but they certainly weren't the best I have ever had.

Across the street form Capt Tony's and Sloppy Joes. Great tacos. Better to walk over and eat and then go back to partying. Nice to be able to get some good eats late at night rather than the typical pub fare.

Friendly service! MUST GET the chicken quesadilla and fish tacos. So so so delicious. Came here everyday on our vacation

Amigos is a great little place for tacos and other Mexican amenities and its selection of hot sauce is commendable. If you're looking for Mexican is Key West this would be the place. Had the soft tacos with carne esada along with a side of black beans and rice and everything was very good. I've had more tasteful carne esada but Amigos steak was not bad. It was cooked well and had some flavor. Like I said, they have a number of sauces to throw on their to add flavor to go along with their very good house-made sauce.

To be honest, I did not expect much from this place. We were looking for a place late at night that was serving dinner (besides a bar) and this was the only place my boyfriend and I could find. We were starving from traveling all day, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the food was really good! Now, we're from Texas and we were not expecting Florida to have good Mexican food, but my fajitas were amazing and my boyfriend was raving about his tacos. Their food rivaled some of the best Mexican food I've had in Texas. Apparently from our discovery, it is open pretty late and was inexpensive to boot! Great Spot. Would definitely return!

We were impressed with the food- not only is it a welcome relief from all the fried tourist food up and down Duval but it would be appreciated no matter where you were. We tried a variety of the tacos and they were all good- particularly the fish taco I had (a big ol' slab of Mahi) and my husband said the tortilla soup was great. The setup of the restaurant is smart- basically bar-type seating winding around the front of the place so no matter where you are sitting you can engage in Key West's cheapest entertainment: people watching. Good job, amigos!

Don't even. Looks cool from the outside but the food was disgusting. I mean come on why are you even trying to eat Mexican in the Keys. Steer clear!!

Update 1/26/13: came back today as Grunts was closed for lunch. Stellar. Place was packed, but oddly, so quiet, peaceful, everyone reverently demolishing their food, grooving to the Bob Marley on the satellite. Changed it up today & had the carnitas nacho platter.....asked if we wanted guac but our cheap selves said no; they brought anyway and IT WAS SUPERB, do invest that extra four bucks, TRUST ME. Nachos and two chicken tacos plentiful for us, loaded plate with black beans, cheese, and, seriously, the juiciest pico de gallo ever experienced, unbelievably delicious. Great service, walked out with sodas, lunch & tip for just over thirty. So very much my favorite place in the Keys...almost relieved we don't have one of these at home or I would be as big as a house.

Food was pretty good. Service was acceptable, but to fringe (not very friendly). Food came out pretty quickly. Good place to go for a quick dinner before going out. In walking distance from all the touristy aspects of KW.

Great for people watching, not so much for food. They need to drop the price of the food to match the quality.

I ordered two fish tacos with a small side of guacamole. The guac was an abomination. I am pretty sure it was either that store bought vacuum sealed stuff or just avocados mixed with the packet of seasoning (which is an abomination in and of itself). The fish tacos were NOT the Southern Cal/Baja style with the cabbage slaw, cilantro and lime crema sauce. They had cheddar-UGH. IMHO, the only way a fish taco should be is Baja style since that is where they originated. The ONLY saving grace of this meal was that the fish was very fresh. Oh, and it was under $10.

Amigos was recommended by a fellow working at Robert Is Here in Homestead, FL. We stopped there for some fruit and, after some small talk, were told we had to visit Amigos. They were right! The food was excellent and the portions were huge. The beer was cold and cheap. Though it is right on the main drag we didn't feel like it was incredibly crowded and loud. We were able to sit comfortably, enjoy our meal, and watch the crowds go by. I enjoyed the slogan printed on their cups - "Once you've ruined your reputation you can live quite freely!". Right or wrong I thought this embodied much of the spirit of Key West :) Also worth noting (and trying!!) is the huge selection of hot sauces.

Phenomenal. Had beef taco salad. Freshest greens I have seen in KW. Good guacamole, yummy Carne tacos. Great service. Loved sitting at the bar ledge, facing Greene st.

Had the nachos and tacos. They were OK, but nothing better than you'd get at any other good taqueria. I got a platter with the more expensive tacos, I believe conch, pork and carne asada, and my wife got a few of the cheaper chicken and beef tacos. The cheaper ones came with the filling sauce that wasn't very good. Didn't catch that on the menu before ordering. The nachos along with the beans and rice on the side of the platter were so-so. Definitely add meat to the nachos, stick with their better fillings for the tacos and skip the platter.

We waited a half hour for two burritos. When the awful waitress finally brought them to us she threw them on the table and walked away. We had ordered a carnitas and a shredded beef. The carnitas was completely dried out to the point it was nearly inedible, the beef was also dry and unseasoned. Our bill was $30. This place sucks. One star for people watching.

Tacos fillings are prepared in large batches. Carnitas was overly watery and gross. Fine for drinks, but avoid the food.

Food was ok, but lacked flavor. 13 dollars for a bland burrito is absurd. Beer was cold. Will not be going back!!

I don't understand the negative reviews - maybe different cooks? I went here twice and this place was great, both times. If you're looking for air conditioning, inside seating was small. Tacos were delicious and the homemade flan is a must. They don't have a medium salsa, just a mild and hot. High rating is due to the fact that this place is far above the surrounding restaurants in term of food quality.

  • Kyle B.

Delicious, fresh, fish tacos on a homemade square tortilla. The outside seating is great and so is the Mexican Coca-Cola. This was one of my favorite places to eat on the island. I also recommend the guacamole.

Great food for the price! Recommend the loaded nachos appetizer. Really have no complaints. Would definitely eat here again. Not a lot of seating or dining area. Small and crowded feeling.

Like so many others, we wound up here after a late night and since it was the only place open and seemed alright, we decided to check it out. Average would be the best way to describe this place for sure. It has the novelty/gimmick of being the place with the "square tortillas" and boy do they like to promote that useless fact. The tortillas are handmade and are fresh, but they still underwhelm. They are tasteless and do not really make you want to come back for more. I ordered the taco platter with said tortillas. I ordered one each of carnitas, beef, and chicken. Each came with it's own sauce. The chicken and carnitas were alright, but the beef was definitely the star of the show. It was nice and moist and the sauce with it was very good as well. The carnitas and chicken were soppy and wet and didn't have much flavor to speak of. It also came with Mexican rice and black beans as well. The rice was crunchy and terribly overcooked. It wasn't that good anyways. The beans, however, were excellent and was the highlight of the meal for me. So, if you're looking for some late night food in Key West, this place isn't terrible, but there are certainly other places that I'd try over this place if I were to try again.

This is the perfect spot for a quick lunch. We ate here in Jan 2011 and we made sure to return again during our recent stay. The beers are cold, the prices reasonable and it is quick! I don't feel as though it is the most "authentic" mexican spot but it is def. tasty and the flavors are unique. The waitress did an awesome job of accommodating our dietary requests and was very patient and sweet. That alone makes the dining experience more pleasant!! I had the chicken burrito "naked" (with no tortilla) and it was awesome. Tons of food and it really hit the spot(it is actually enough for two to share. My boyfriend had the taco salad with carnitas and he really enjoyed it. Also - they have Pacifico which is a must have when enjoying mexican on a hot summer day. Be sure to sit on the bar the faces Duval so you can people watch!! We will def. come back again during our next visit to Key West!

It was nice to find a "cheap" place to eat after having shelled out a ton of money on food after only a few days on vacation. And the food was actually good! The location is good, as it's just around the corner from Duval so if you sit at the counter outside you can people watch without actually being part of the circus. They also have a tv inside that is hooked up to a security camera facing the street. It shows the bar across the street and the goofballs trying to toss coins into the mouth of the fish on the sign. Entertainment! There is limited seating so I wouldn't try it with a large group unless you went during an off hour. Good "healthy style" Mexican food. Chips were fresh, but had a slight veg oil after taste. Guacamole was very good. Of course, there are a dozen or so hot sauce choices, none of which I partook. Husband got the taco salad with shredded beef and loved it. I was surprised because he's not really a salad kind of guy. He raved about it several days later. I got a shrimp taco and a chicken taco and both were good. Margaritas in the souvenir cup are a great value!

Official Rating is 3.5 Stars. Stumbled in here looking for some decent Mexican food and a cold beer or two. Right off the bat I will tell you what bothered me the most. When you walk in, you can sit outside along the rail, or outside behind the rail at a table. We sat at a table. It was hot as BALLS! The stools were hard as hell and hurt my ass. Half way thru dinner I had to stand. When I did, i noticed there was in fact indoor seating in real chairs. I would opt for that on the next visit. Yes, there will be a next visit. I ordered the three taco meal on the home made square tortillas with beef. The beef was really well seasoned and shredded. They were a little greasy, but what Mexican food isn't? Wife had a taco salad and loved it. We also had an order of chips and salsa which were good as well. They have a really nice selection of hot sauces on the table for you to sample. Mild for you sissys and some serious ass blaster stuff for people like me that can take the heat. All in all a good find. Not sure what some Yelpers were bitching about? Must be the same people that give places like Sloppy Joes and Hogs Breathe 5 stars. Give it a try. Oh yeah, as always, Key West prices apply.

Not sure what I liked more, the carnitas tacos or the quesadilla? We stopped by as we finished our excursion for the morning. We were hungry and meican food sounded good! We checked Yelp and headed here! Started with two tacos and had to have more! The quesadilla was flavorful with cheddar cheese melted and toasted on the outside. The sauces were also flavorful and different! A great surprise that ended our day on land on a positive high!

Went to amigos after a night of cavorting in key west. was skeptical at first. I am not a fan of fast food Mexican, a la taco bell. However, was famished and wanted something to soak up the drinks so my liver wouldn't kill me in my sleep. I wanted to try a square taco but also I wanted nachos. Screw it, I'm on vacation and got both. The taco was chicken, lightly seasoned as to not be overbearing. Served hot and just enough toppingsof cilantro and lettuce to not distract from the food. The best were the kitchen sink nachos. Served with beef, chicken, and pork. Then a nice helping of veggies and beans. What surprised me was zuchini and yellow squash in the nachos. Not a distraction, but enhanced the experience. Overall my experience was awesome. My one concern was the chicken was a little dry but will not fault them as the experience was great.

Great local place. We went for lunch and had tacos fish, chicken and shredded beef. All were delicious! I preferred the beef and my partner enjoyed all 3. Prices were moderate for key west. We would definitely go back again. Bonus is you can people watch while you wait and eat

Ate here with a couple friends, I got the carne tacos which were bleh ok, they have a nice hot sauce selection but we had a douchebag of a waiter who I had to remind twice to get me my beer and was all around rude.. I went to the bathroom and he threw out my beer while in the bathroom....ok...? Overall a crappy experience, never go here

So this is one of my first "3 star reviews". We had chips salsa, asked for a side of guac and a couple of drinks. The chips were average. The guac ok (and small) and drinks were limited to margaritas (pre made I believe). They did have an ok selection of beers. Draft and bottled. For the price and being just off duval street, I didn't expect much. My GF, was more disappointed, but i see it as a cheap rest, with great people watching since there are about 12 seats at a bar like spot that faces the street. Also lots of bottled sauces to choose from. Didn't eat much here so can't review but my girl said the food smells good and we did have a side order of the Mexican fried potatoes. A little flavor/spice to it. So that was good. Got 2 drinks, 3 items. All for less than $25. Also, wait staff was very quick friendly and helpful.

The food is not that bad but service was awful. We were to close to the kitchen and we could hear the people there cursing in spanish (I speak spanish) and found that very disrespectful... even though it wasn't about us if you are working you are not in a park... I wouldn't come back there and definitely would not recommend this place.

3.5 This is one of the harder businesses for me to star. It's a true 3.5 and I don't know whether to go up or down. Hopefully I figure things out by the end of this review. On the one hand, I appreciate that this is a casual eatery, not far off Duval and is good for groups. My crew came here beaten and battered on a Sunday night and our waitress was fun, engaging and helpful. I was mentally and physically exhausted and appreciated her pep. She talked me in to try the square tacos. At $4 a pop, they're not exactly cheap but they come with cilantro rice and the bottom of the hard taco shell is square, so there's that. My chicken tacos were perfectly serviceable. I ate them quickly and with some enthusiasm but I can't say they were the best or most memorable tacos I've ever had. Add black beans, cheese and mild salsa and you're set with a perfectly suitable dinner. On the other hand, the table tops are laden with a variety of hot sauces. Engage these bad boys at your peril. Amigos is a faster food establishment. They have lots of table turnover. It's near a touristy section of Key West. The sauce bottles (to my eye) were old and not very well cleaned. In fact, some at my table joked about the crust on said bottles. I, of course, had nothing to do with said bottles. Of those who joked around with said bottles, two used a variety of the sauces. Those two experienced frightening food poisoning later that evening. Take from that what you will. Ultimately, I liked it more than I didn't like it... but I don't know that I'd go back. I, certainly, wouldn't be in a rush to do so. Hmm, I believe I've come to a star rating.

What a fun, little restaurant to visit when you are on Duvall St. My friends and I decided to try this place while we were walking down the strip one afternoon. We were looking for a neat restaurant to enjoy some snacks since we had a few hours before we had an event to attend. My husband and I shared pork tacos platter and sodas. Our friends tried the nacho platter. I have never tried pork tacos before so I was hesitant, but they were delicious!!! We were served four tacos pilled high with meat and fresh pico wrapped in a fresh, homemade corn tortilla. We chose to sit at the outside bar facing Duvall Street while we waited on our food. There was a large group of us (8 to be exact), and we were greeted immediately. Our server brought us our drinks very quickly, and we were served our food in a very reasonable time. I didn't get a good luck of the restaurant, but from what I could tell the inside was very clean and inviting. They encourage you to walk around and check out the corn tortillas that are being made in house. I definitely want to visit and again and check it out.

We ate an appetizer for 15 bucks that was off the scales. Nachos said the kitchen sink and they were loaded with meats, potatoes, cheese, corn, and salsa. Literally, we ran out of chips. The nachos were delicious and the strawberry margarita went well. Balcony seats made it perfect real estate for people watching. Hubs and I had a great time here, and we left full off just the appetizer plate.

Very solid Mexican joint right at the end of Duval. My shrimp tacos were gigantic. Like, remove half the shrimp to be able to actually hold it as a taco kind of gigantic. Me gusta. The margs were just okay, but that's pretty much the case anywhere these days.

Legit Best Mexican place in key west ... Not as authentic as i'm used to in Chicago but definitely up there ... My bf and i had chicken taco plates ...and it was really good .. They have several different type of hot sauces for you try ... It is kinda cramped in there but worth it .... We sat outside .. looking towards duval st madness and they are pretty inexpensive....We will definitely be back if we are ever in keys ....:)

Well, my wife and I are on vacation in Key West and of course we were looking for good places to eat. We are qualifying our Yelp assisted choices to 4 stars if possible and tonight for dinner we decided on Amigo's. I must qualify my review by saying we moved to Florida a few years ago from Southern California where there is a Mexican restaurant on every block. We are generally very picky about Mexican because of our California and surrounding states experience so we don't throw around stars here on yelp easily. Amigo's was a pleasant surprise and worthy of the stars. The tortillas were warm and fresh and the shrimp in my Fajitas were excellent, large and plump. ( I am finding all the shrimp here in Key West are very good) the chicken, peppers and onions were fresh and not overcooked. The level of seasoning in the fajitas was excellent and authentic! Amigo's offers about 5 different hot sauces and all were different and pretty good, depending on your tolerance for heat. The guacamole was a bit weak with almost no seasoning but I guess It would be asking too much for every detail to be great? We also ordered the carnitas nacho's. The chips and toppings were fresh and delicious but there just wasn't enough melted cheese for our tastes. The portion sizes were generous and with two cokes the bill was $34. Very nice for this quality and portion sizes. If you consider the tourist area that Key West is and the high prices in the area, this is a real value for a delicious The open air location was unique and service was good. I'm not too sure about the square tortilla's they have but the flavor of everything was very good. Based on the other Mexican we've had in Florida this place should get 5 stars but we're pretty tough on Mexican, having had great experience with this type food in CA, NM, AZ.

This is 5 stars for sure! I loved this place so much, I went twice! The beef brisket tacos are the best you will ever have! Very authentic and very fresh. They do get a tad soggy, it's crock pot meat, a shell consisting of corn and water (that's it) and salsa. OF COURSE it gets soggy!! That means, eat quick. The servers were fantastic and I will definitely be back!

  • Olena D.

We have come here twice and still their food has not changed in being so tasteless! The fish tacos had no salt or any kind of seasoning, all you can taste is the taco with pineapple. The steak fajitas were dry, burnt, over cooked, and just didn't taste fresh. The only good thing about the place is their salsa. Not coming here again next time we are visiting.

This is simple, fresh, Mexican cuisine at its finest. Amigos is located in the heart of Key West. It is an open-air little joint with great service and ambience. What first caught my eye was a sign that said "95% of our menu is Gluten Free" and the fact that they serve gluten free beers. Sold! We ended up going here 3 times during our week-long stay and here's why: 1. The food is all freshly made, including their corn tortillas. All fresh ingredients, no fillers, no nothing. This made it VERY easy for me to eat there with my food allergies. 2. Excellent service. It was quick and friendly. They took care of my allergies and made me the first Mexican food I have had in years. 3. Really good Margaritas, Mexican Coke and Gluten free beers (New Planet). 4. HOT SAUCES!!! I am a sucker for any chili-related sauce. They have a ton to choose from and they range from Mild to Ghost pepper. We tried every single one! Every time I went, I got my go-to Chicken Fajitas. The tortillas are square which make it easier to fill and eat your fajitas without spillage. The chicken has a delicious cumin spice crust. They came with rice, beans, and extra tortillas! My brother got the beef tacos every time and usually ended up ordering more halfway through the meal. That's how good these bad boys are. Also, for the price, you get a lot of food! Definitely one of the more affordable places and a great stop for lunch!

Need a quick pit stop in between adult beverages? Very convenient at Duval and Greene sts, Amigos is perfect. My server Andrea recommended the Baja fish taco platter. Good call! :) The 3 tacos were all generous and with black beans and rice made a satisfying meal. Andrea (being a native Conch) was a great source of local 411...THANKS I'LL BE BACK

Phenomenal tacos. I had the chicken tacos and my boyfriend had carnitas tacos. Both were delicious. He had refried beans which he loved, but neither of us cared too much for the rice. Even still, it hit the spot and will definitely come back here next time I am in KW.

Food was delicious. They got our orders wrong, and we all ended up eating the same kind of tacos even though we ordered different kinds, but we ordered to-go, so we didn't check before leaving. Either way, we all loved the tacos so we weren't too unhappy with the mistake. The waiter was friendly and they got our order out quickly. I would definitely come back and actually eat in there and try something different.

Finding vegetarian friendly places is always fun! (and sometimes a real difficult time). Amigos was suggested by the crew on a sunset cruise and we were glad to have checked it out. Good food, square tacos, delicious nachos and "everything starts vegetarian until you add the meat!" ... good selection of hot sauces. quick friendly service. On my list of places to go back to next time we are in Key West. Also, if you are unsure which key lime pie you like the best they sell a half slice of each Kermits and Key West Key Lime Pie co so you can be the judge ..

Good food, decent prices despite proximity to Duval Street. Tacos were very good & filled so much that meat was falling out - a good thing. Hot sauce selection is excellent. I liked the Amigos jalepeno key lime hot sauce best. I would go back again. A pleasant surprise!

I came to key west for vacation and this spot was amazing! There isn't really a lot of places that are open late and this restaurant is right off the strip. The staff is extreme friendly and the food came out REALLY fast. I will definitely be coming back here !

We kind of stumbled upon this place looking for authentic local cuisine. This is a very small place-- maybe 100 people can fit-- and there is no air conditioning. That said, the service is quick and friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. The nachos are fresh and hot when they came out. I had the shrimp taco and although it looked like a small potion, it left me pretty full. Brian had the chicken burrito and he barely finished it. It looks like a hole in the wall, but it is actually a real hidden gem. I would recommend Amigos for lunch or a light dinner.

We came back here after the first time, so that says a lot. The baja fish tacos are nice and my girlfriend really enjoyed the margarita. Service depends on which server you get, we had a good one the first time and an average one the second time.

Great burritos!!! We would love it more if they at least gave you a few chips with your burrito. It was not in the restaurant, so if you need a break from the Florida heat this place does not offer relief but the burritos are tasty!

Celiac/Gluten-Free/Food Allergy Review: We went based on a local friend's recommendation since they were super upfront about the gluten allergy awareness which is awesome. I ordered the platter of corn tortilla bean tacos, cilantro rice, and black beans. The service, however, was kind of disappointing as we felt rushed. My corn tortilla bean tacos had to be sent back and remade because they included bell peppers after I mentioned I also had a bell pepper allergy and had confirmed that there were none in the beans before ordering. Our waitress was super nice and apologetic, but another server was a tad bit argumentative and tried to tell me they were green onions (no, sir, I wish they were green onions!). The food was good and a great option near Duval, but if you suffer from any food allergies, just be vigilant.

The food here is amazing. We had quesadillas burritos and tacos. Everything was great. We'll be back!

The BEST tacos I have had in a few years. I had the roast beef brisket and pulled chicken square tacos, fresh chips and guac. Holy flavors, Batman! Not to mention the wide array of sauces to add extra layers of flavor. My favorite was the habanero key lime sauce. Sweet with just enough kick. Watching people trying to flip coins into the mouth of the fake grouper across the street at the dive bar was a hoot. If you love tacos, hit this place for sure. About 150 steps from Sloppy Joe's.

Good people watching, if you can get street seating. Fresh tacos. Fish tacos with mahi mahi were excellent. Hot version is not so hot, but plenty of hot sauces available to amp it up.

I'm not sure all the complaints about this place on other reviews. I really enjoyed the food. Or maybe it's that I was so pissed up drunk that I would have eaten the sole of a used shoe and loved it. I had the quesadilla and shared a large nacho. I thought the food was pretty good. I didn't leave anything on my plate so that must be a good sign!

Great fish tacos, everything is fresh and the handmade tortillas are the best. Didn't try enough things to rate 5 star but would definitely recommend. Great breakfast also with some of the best Cuban coffee I have ever had. Chicken burrito is amazing. Updated to 5 stars after coming back several times. Service is fast, prices are very reasonable.

Great Mexican place!! Love it. An extremely high quality Chipotle. It was right down the street from our hotel so we made a few trips there. Fabulous!!

We were hungry and decided to order from here on a whim and then hang out at World of Beer while Amigo's prepared and delivered the food to us. That happened, but the problem was, nobody liked their food. We tried chicken quesadillas, beef tacos, and shrimp tacos and everyone thought the food was lame. The shrimp tacos I had - the shrimp tasted OK but the rest of the taco was basically cold, with mushy vegetables/slaw inside and was not appetizing even after adding hot sauce. My wife said her quesadilla was horrible. My other friends had similar opinions. We thought it would be decent, but it just wasn't. Lo Siento Amigos...

Some of the freshest, most flavorful Mexican food I've ever had. I didn't expect to find it (and such reasonable prices) in a touristy place like Old Town Key West, but there it was. You walk up and seat yourself, either inside at a bar that faces the street, or outside on a little covered porch. It's right across the street from Captain Tony's, so there's plenty of people-watching to do. The afternoon we visited, there was a guy outside the bar tossing and catching a quarter in various fancy ways -- free entertainment, y'all! My husband and I each had the taco platter (3 tacos, you choose the fillings from a decently long list, rice and beans). I had carnitas, chicken, and fish, which was mahi. The tortillas are house-made and square and soft -- no easily fractured crispy taco shells here -- and stand up well to the juicy fillings and sauces. My son had a cheese quesadilla, which was a nice size for him; we also had a basket of chips and house-made salsa, which could have been a little spicier, but still tasted great. They offer a range of hot sauces, too. Choose your poison. Point of interest: Amigos serves Mexican Coke, (no, not coke, COKE, with a capital C), which is sweetened with sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup. Try one. Also, beer!

This is a really neat little mexican joint right off of Duval. You sit right in the open window area and watch foot traffic while you have a snack or a meal. We stopped in for a light snack and drinks. The guacamole was really good. However we were not a fan of the simple tacos, I think the tortilla were a little soft and "wet" so we didnt much care for them (easy enough we just will order something else next time). The salsas were good. I'm sure we will be back to see what else they offer.

Great spot to stop and grab a quick bite. They have a nice bar area to sit and eat at outside. It's a great spot to eat and "people watch". The tacos were good but not what I would consider amazing. Amigo's is a solid four star establishment though.

Loved this place. Went there for the first time on a recent trip to key west. Granted, we went after a few beers and drinks, but the food (and hot sauce selection!) is awesome. It really hit the spot. I got the fajitas, but wish I had followed my boyfriend's decision of getting three single tacos. They were so awesome.

At our first day in Key West. bf & I hovered to Bull & Whistle to start our liquid diet of beer and Jameson shots. Soon enough, our grumbling tummies realized that won't do. Helpful local guided us to Amigos that was a hop, skip, a jump away from Bull for some good eats. Place isn't a fancy joint, but perfect for people watching as you perch yourself against the seats. They have a great set up of hot sauces in front of ya from: ghost pepper, Tobasco, Cholula, etc with a guide of mild-hot-insane sauces at your discretion. I ordered the chicken square taco, bf ordered al pastor square taco. ______________Long moment of silence followed _______________ ______ His eyes widened as he took another huge bite of his taco _______ 0_o ______ As for me, I was trying to pace myself & not inhale that thing in 3 bites _____ Others may complain it's soggy, but the tacos were excellent ! They are submerged in a sauce so it's a bit of a messy eat. I didn't need any hot sauce as the spices and flavors were perfect in its originality. Friends, Amigos, Chingoos, call it what you may... I've found a new best friend, you scrumptious square taco you!

The only good meixican place in Key West now. The huac was great and so were the nachos and fajitas. Large portions too. The service leaves a little to be desired....

Wow...not sure why this place is rating so high....maybe we caught them on a bad day. We had lunch here - there were 5 of us. We ordered a bunch of stuff and shared - beef nachos, conch tacos, pork tacos, chicken quesadilla & shrimp skewers... We did NOT care for the food - only thing we agreed that was good were the chips and salsa. The chicken and beef were DRY. The conch was fishy. The shrimp was dry too! One of our beers had black stuff floating in it. A couple of us were sick after eating here. I would NOT recommend this place to eat. so many other spots. Sorry Amigos!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Ordered delivery and the steak fajitas were very dry and had absolutely no spice or taste. We ordered combo fajitas and they arrived cold with only 3 cold tortillas. The only positive was the chips and salsa. When we called to complain, the owner said "everyone makes mistakes". They said they'd send over more tortillas and we've now been waiting for over an hour. Do not waste your time with ordering from this place...

I'm a sucker for a late night burrito and after the mayhem of Duval street, this place hit the spot. Not the best burrito ever, but pretty tasty. I had the carnitas which I thought were really good. They have a much larger menu normally, but they are open late which was really all I was after.

The food at Amigo's was really good - I had the Shrimp Quesidilla's and they were truly the bomb.com , haha. The other members in my party had taco's, burrito's and nacho's and there were surely no complaints. The main issue with his place is the service, as the staff was rude beyond rude. After the foods arrival I asked for some chipotle sauce and was questioned as to why I needed it. After a 2 minute question and answer session, I was finally brought the sauce. On 3 occasions the waitress was livid when we asked for more water and then added the tip onto our bill because they knew their service sucked. When we asked them why, she just rolled her eyes and walked away. I've eaten out a lot and been lucky enough to travel the world and this service was truly one of the worst I've encountered. If you hate being a waitress get out of the business! Maybe try take out if you want some good food but otherwise it isn't worth it to deal with the worlds worst staff.

We ate here twice during a long weekend in key west - liked it so much the first time that we went back the next day. Excellent tacos! Really great salsa. Above average guacamole. Decent prices. Very casual. Best experience is if you sit at the bar that overlooks the street so that you can people watch.

Great late night eats at an open air taco bar. If you live for spice, their ghost pepper sauce and their "special sauce from the back kitchen" will literally make your eyes water. Fantastic!

While waiting for our flight out, we took one last stroll down Duval and came across the taco stand. My husband loves tacos and Mexican food, so his natural selection led us to the right place. Jacque's service was perfect; she's so perky and happy, and full of all the right answers. Definitely order the Mexican Coke made with cane sugar. We started with chips and salsa with guac and it was perfect to start. The guac is silky smooth and still retains its flavor, and naturally, my husband had to mix all the sauces to find a good dip for his chips. We ordered the 2 tacos each and they were phenomenal. He ordered the fish of the day and received yellowfin and Mahi; I ordered shrimp and the Al Pastor (I think it was called) and it was amazing!! Such little tacos with such a big helping. As if I wasn't already full, we ordered the Key Lime pie split, which delivers a sliver of Key West's top producers: Key Lime Pie Factory & Kermit's. We will DEFINITELY be back!!

This is a great people watching place. You sit facing the sidewalk at a bar. My wife and I both had beer and Fajitas, chicken for her, fish for me. We could not finish the meals, the square tacos I thought were stupid but work well. The fish wasn't over cooked Cooked which often happens. This was one of our cheapest (relatively) meals but one of the better ones for the Keys.

good place to stop in. we had a quick bit then went on our way. I say its a must.

  • Young R.

Genius, square tacos! It's a soft taco (apparently made of nothing but corn and water) that's a square instead of a circle, so it folds up into a neat rectangular taco that holds filling in really well. They had like 20 different hot sauces on the table ranging from mild to crazy hot! A friend sent us here after she had come to Key West on vacation saying they were the best tacos on earth, wished they would have come here first so they could have eaten here for every meal of their vacation, etc. That... was a bit of an exaggeration -- very good, but not the best taco of my life, so keep your expectations a little bit lower than that!

Well, we ate at Amigos twice in 24 hours... It was that good. Our first night in we stopped by for food while drinking. We had the chicken Nachos. Great!! Quick service, great atmosphere. They have a neat mexican tile theme on the bar stools with a street view of Sloppy Joes and Duvall street. It is right across from Capt Tony's. Last night we had burritos. Mine as perfect, Karen's was made agin as our waitress was not listening closely to her order. The second burrito was still wong but, it did not take much away from the deliciousness. My suggestion for this place would be to add some chips with food ordered on he side. They have a huge selection of Hot Sauces in racks on the tables. Chips would make it fun to try the different sauces... I will return to this restaurant :)

  • Whisker P.

Square tacos! What a great idea! Each one comes with a different sauce, and each are delectable. (Particularly the carnitas). Sangria and beer were available as well. The only thing lacking was the service. Neither very on the ball or polite for that matter, but the tacos were so good we didn't care. We'll be back!

  • Ariana R.

We stopped her for a snack since it was too early for dinner. We really liked our tacos and the sauce was really good. They were quick and friendly, and had a really cool atmosphere. My husband enjoyed his Mexican Coke and I had fresh lemonade. I look forward to going back.

Terrible seating and no one seemed to be interested in helping us. Finally found four chairs together, but they were chairs-- at a bar-- and when I asked the server how anyone was supposed to eat sitting so far below their food, she just shrugged and chuckled. We walked out.

Good find, thank you Yelp. My friends wanted something low key and inexpensive. This place was great, and the hot sauce collection on each table was great. I discovered another one which I like (yes I have a massive collection and a problem already). The tacos were quite bland... this is what all of that hot sauce is for. My friend got a rib eye which looked great for $20. Probably should have gone with enchiladas. The small nachos were large and very tasty (+2 stars). The guacamole was also well done and very good. Would recommend it.

Yum! I ordered a delicious huevos rancheros here for breakfast. Granted I've never met a huevos rancheros I didn't like, but still. I was actually very surprised by the quality of the food because everything was super fresh and delicious from the homemade tortillas to the salsa. Writing this is actually making me want to eat huevos rancheros now, hmmm I'm gonna have to see what's in my fridge. It was a big plate the eggs were perfectly cooked and there was lots of fresh chopped onions and tomatoes. The only thing I would have asked for was a little heat, but there were plenty of hot sauces to choose from as I think that's Amigos thing, so I can't really complain. Service wasn't the best, but hey, it's Key west.

Wow, the carnitas was fantastic. We were in KW for a week and ate there three times - whole family loved Amigos. Square tacos, great seasonings and a nice location near Duval made it a hit. The service was a little spotty on our last visit when we went at 1130 a.m - three servers standing around while one family sat and waited for help (us). Almost like they were better when they were busy. Highly recommend - best food we had on the trip.

During our one week vacation, we chose to go to Amigos 2x. Excellent nachos. Portion sizes were generous. Friendly atmosphere and great service. We also always appreciate the gluten free options, including gf beer! Two choices.

Priced right for what it is. Good location and really great Mexican food. Like a lot of places down Duval it is small but the service was fast and we were in and out quickly. 5 of us ordered and all 5 of us were pleased. 5 stars all the way.

Amazingly fresh! We had take out delivered and dined there. Much better at location. All the food is very tasty and chemical free. They take great pride in posting ingredients. Mexican Coke (real sugar!) was a treat for the kids. Portions are HUGE and spicy means SPICY!

  • Chad W.

Maybe it was due to Fantasy Fest, but the tacos just weren't as good as last time. Everything was uninspired, undersauced, underflavored. The square tacos are still a gimmick as I mentioned before, and I'd still prefer a round taco. I would consider allowing them to blame the food on being slammed for Fantasy Fest, but they weren't even that busy inside. Maybe the cooks were just distracted by the 300lb topless land manatees walking the streets. Either way, it's still worth coming here for a 22oz beer, as the prices are reasonable as KW goes. But I wouldn't jump on the food bandwagon again.

This is a little hole in the wall but a cool place that reminds me of the places my wife and i ate at in Mexico! They offer a big selection and the portions are BIG! this is some AWESOME food at a great price! You will not leave hungry!

Ended up here twice during our 4 night vacation in Key West. Mainly, because the decent food options plummet after 10pm. Plus, they have great covered open air seating for large groups. Amigos is big on using only whole ingredients in their foods. Examples being the housemade corn tortillas (corn and water) and the huge list of vegetarian/vegan items (pretty much anything that wasn't specifically a meat). Both trips we went with the tacos. First a plate (includes beans/rice) and second just the tacos. Impressively, each type of filling stood out from the others where at most generic taco joints, the beef tastes like the pork, which tastes like the chicken and so on. The standouts were the fish and beef. Both extremely tender and yummy. The hot sauce selection is exceptional, but a warning for you. I don't care how much you like hot sauce, the appropriately named 'butt blaster' is insanely hot. It will literally burn your mouth for an hour or two. You've been warned. Strolling down Duval and looking for a late night treat not involving pizza, check out Amigos.

  • Vincent G.

Gotta love some good Mexican. Add in varied hot sauce selection, great environment and southernmost island in Florida Keys and one gets Amigos. I had scrumptrulescent, aforementioned square tacos that were brought out on one of those old school plastic TV dinner trays. Ya know the thing with the rectangular depression for the main entree, a couple square ones for beans and salsa, and a slender slot for silverware. I definitely want to go back before end of trip! Minus half a star for having to pay for chips and salsa (always frowned upon in my opinion) and another half cuz the price was more $$ than $.

We stumbled on Amigos our first day in Key West. All I can say is "meh"- - the fish taco was decent, but the chorizo potato was non-descript as was the service.

    (2)
  • Richard T.

Petty cool place to have lunch, the conch fritters were good. The square taco was small and not very tasty. The waitress was pre-occupied with a guy and very inattentive to our party. Slightly better than taco bell but; the texture of the spongy corn tortilla was not that tasty and the meat was cold and not very flavorful, I guess that is why they have so many hot sauces.

  • Denise H.

This place rocked! Handy location. Solid fare. It's really hard to find a Baja-style fish taco on the East Coast that does it right. Amigos really fit the bill for quick place for a light bite with great atmosphere that didn't have such a touristy menu, with tourist prices. The cost might be a tad high, but the freshness and quality were well worth it. Bonus: Mexican Coke - no high-fructose corn syrup, real sugar cane. Bonus: Accomodating staff, laid-back feel. Bonus: Hot sauce selection Bonus: People watching. While there, we asked the waiter to tune in to the Phillies game for us. He must've alerted the owner who was a former Philadelphian and big Flyers fan. He watched some of the game with us and talked Philly, about the business and the culture in Key West. He was so friendly compared to some of the folks we met there. Didn't catch his name, but Cheers, mate! Post meal, our waiter gave us some costume Mexican mustaches which we messed around with and had a good laugh. Ha! I like a place with a sense of humor. Great experience overall. Would definitely re-visit.

Last meal we had in Key West :-( Not exactly the Mexican food capital of N. America. We took up a spot at the bar which faces the street. It's right across the street from Tony's Saloon so if you come at the right time, well make that just about any time, you can see some drunks stumble their way out of the bar. Service was good, food was meh. Nothing really jumped out at me about it. It was maybe a half notch above the stuff that you would get at Taco Bell. I had a chicken burrito which was massive with a Dos Equis lager. I'd honestly be surprised if this place is still in business on our next visit to Key West but I'd be willing to give it another shot if it is.

Great place to people watch. Sit at the bar that overlooks the street. The lobster fajitas we had for breakfast were amazing. The cuban coffee was out of this world. Great casual restaurant!

Place is the bomb! I think we ate here every day for lunch over the course of a week in Key West. Hand made soft taco tortillas and awesome chicken, daily fish, pork, and brisket. Tons of hot sauces and friendly staff to help make recommendations and to give a good laugh. Nice to see Philly representing!!!

Stopped by on walk with daughter & split the HUEVOS RANCHEROS. Did not realize they have a breakfast menu all day until 4 pm. A great alternative. Think there was a mix up on the order as service was very slow but waitress apologized when we left. Sit outside to people watch. Great food. Interesting place.

Not a bad taco place, FOR KEY WEST. Great people watching spot with open-air seating. Tacos are served on funky square corn tortillas. The tortillas are made on the premises, and in my opinion, they were excellent! They wouldn't have been out of place back home, in Texas. I had a chicken taco and a fish taco. The shredded chicken was "pretty good". The fish...not so much. It was fishy, to the point where my fiancee commented that he could smell it from where he was sitting-eek! He ordered pork tacos, which received two thumbs up. Our tacos were served with a very fresh, tasty tomato based salsa- surprisingly good. They also had a set up with something like 16 kinds of hot sauce, if that's your thing. Our server was obviously put out and annoyed that she had to take care of us- this seems to be an epidemic in KW, what's up with that?? Also irksome: we ordered a beer in a 22 oz. "souvenir cup"...the beer was served in a solo cup, and when we questioned our server, she unapologetically stated that they were out of souvenir cups; info that would have been better shared with us when we ordered. In conclusion, this is a decent, relatively inexpensive change of pace once you get tired of fish sandwiches. We'd probably return if we wanted something quick and easy to soak up the booze.

Amigos has launched a new menu and it is FANTASTIC! We started with the chips, salsa, and guacamole. Their guac is perfect, smooth but still has chunks of avocado. I did their carne asada burrito bowl which is cilantro lime rice, your choice of black or refried beans, cheese, and hot or mild salsa. I did the refried beans and added guac. The carne asada is cooked to perfection then thinly sliced.. You get crispy, tasty edges and juicy meat that comes topped with oregano lime marinated onions and tomatillo sauce. Mix that together with the rest of the goodness in the bowl and it makes it even better! My husband had the Costa Maya grilled shrimp bowl. The shrimp are marinated and topped with a fresh pineapple jicama salsa and mexican slaw. I didn't try it but he said it was really good! We also got a carnitas taco to share (I only got one bite!). The carnitas are slow roasted with garlic, oregano, and cinnamon! The cinnamon gives it a nice sweet touch. Overall, the food and restaurant in general was amazing! Would definitely recommend!!

Gotta go against the grain on this one. We decided to eat here a few nights ago, as we wanted something light...and when I saw the hot sauce selection, I was sold. DEFINITELY set up for people watching (but hey, it's KW...come on...). The menu selection is short, but thorough. The beer was cold. We ended up ordering a selection of tacos...fish and pork for her, chicken for moi. She also ordered that funny green stuff made from avocado (there's not accounting for taste, but then, she did marry me, so the point holds). The tacos arrived quite quickly, and frankly, they were damned good. A bit interesting looking at square tacos, but that's a visual...has nothing to do with the awesome taste that they had. Did I mention the hot sauce selection? YUM!

So I love tacos and I walked by this open taco place and said that looks good. I went in and the place is so precious. It has your own seating with fans so your not to hot and wonderful hot sauce. I got the fish tacos and i know that it was a hole in the wall, I didn't think it would be that great got inside and it was amazing. The food is like nothing I have ever tasted it was like a dance in my mouth. It's so delicious and tasty I wouldn't have asked for a better place to eat on a hot day. I wouldn't give anything less then 5 stars

Out of this world, homemade Mexican!!! Small but worth the wait to be seated!! Their roasted corn is out of this world.... Salads are fresh and the "square" tacos were as fresh as they come. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time!

Christmas Eve lunch here was great! My husband had the shrimp quesadilla. I had a baja fish taco that was good but not amazing. The shrimp was amazing though! And great prices for the area.

You must have the carnitas. Slow roasted pork with garlic, oregano & a touch of cinnamon. And it's served in a freshly made tortilla with the restaurant's unique stamp; a square shape. Order the platter which brings 3 tacos & is served with a key lime cilantro rice & retried beans. This is great people watching spot that satisfies your appetite after a day of sun, sea & sightseeing

We ordered shrimp salad and chicken platter. The food was inedible. The shrimp had such a bad smell that we had to throw the entire dish away. The chicken platter was bland and the rice seemed uncooked.

Amigos is delicious and legit. I have no idea where this crazy idea for a square corn tortilla came from, but that's awesome. Even better are all of the ingredients that taste so fresh and well seasoned. We tried the chorizo potato, the carnitas and the fried shrimp. We also had the fried potatoes and grilled corn-on-the-cob. Everything was delicious, very deliberate, well executed and reasonably priced. The service was fast and friendly. They have a legit good restaurant there - it would be legit anywhere. Bravo!

My girlfriend and I were in the mood for some Mexican food after a long day walking around in Key West. The food was fresh and pretty tasty. Fresh tortillas and chips made in house were good, nice people watching spot and good quick service. Portions were a bit small but nothing to complain about! I'd recommend the bowl dishes over the tacos too.

I may be overstating this place by giving it 5 stars but it was the only place we went to twice while in Key West and we loved it both times. The 1st time we came was at 8:45 am and Key West is dead in the morning. We walked right in and were the only 2 people here. We sat at the bar that overlooks the street. In our view was the corner of Duval with Sloppy Joes. I ordered the Chorizo, potato and egg bowl. This had the perfect propoertions of egg, chorizo, sausage, black beans, potato, cilantro and cotjia cheese. It was amazing. I almost licked the bowl! The 2nd time we came was around 10pm after drinking a lot through out the day. We took our same seats with the same view except now the view was a little more rowdy. High fives from drunks, and conversations with barely concious women while enjoying my yummy tacos. I had the carne asade and chicken soft tacos that were really good. Not as good as my breakfast from the previous day but still solid. They promote all that organic, glutten-free fru-fru like stuff but really it's all about the atmosphere and flavor. Service was spot on too. So high five a roofied blonde while enjoying your taco(your taco, not hers) or come in the morning for a quiet breakfast. 2 different atmospheres but 1 great place

Try this place. Get the square tacos. Yum. You might have to wait around a bit or try back later because the seating area is small, but it's worth the wait. AND they have a "take-away" counter if you don't want to dine-in. We started with the chips and guac which was tasty. The hubs doesn't normally care for guac but he scooped theirs up like a champ. He tried the chicken burrito and he wasn't wowed. He said it was good, but nothing special. I tried the soft taco combo and picked the chicken, the carnitas, and the chorizo/potato. I thought mine were delish. I took a gamble on the chorizo/potato and I was glad I did, it was probably my favorite of the three! They also offer a nifty dessert which offers you two slices of key lime pie from two different companies for a taste test. Neat idea.

A delicious flare to what we call TexMex. The made fresh burritos were wonderful, and sitting out patio style facing the street made for entertaining people watching.

Went to this place one of my nights in key west. We were in the mood for Mexican and it was one of the only late night food options on duval. Even though the hours were listed open until midnight, when we arrived at 11 they told us they were no longer seating tables. We got our food to go , not by choice. We ended up eating it on porch chairs in front of one of the hotels. I got a burrito which I thought was standard. The food was fine but nothing stood out about it. I thought the burrito needed some hot sauce for flavor and the guacamole needed some more seasoning. Would rather try other restaurants before returning here. Sidenote: my friend ordered hard shell tacos and was given soft shell - not the end of the world but he was bemused.

To be kicked out of your restaurant is the most ridiculous experience I have ever had. Because I ordered food Togo but we were waiting for a table to eat does not justify any expulsion of your establishment. Your manager ever was nothing but rude. Eric is the manager and should have nothing to do with the hospitality industry. The manager walks up to me and says I'm be rude to the hostess, I inform him I ordered food Togo but I will await for a table to ordered additional food he tells me I have been rood to his staff but all I asked was for a table when free and that I need to leave since I ordered food Togo. Every time I come to key west I praise this place on top of bring new client here that have never been here before. This manager Eric needs to be reprimanded and let go! This is a unbelievable establishment for food but the manager service was so rude.

Great tacos (meat as well as fish and shrimp), and great huevos rancheros. Pulled up a stool and watched the masses walk by and we enjoyed 2 meals at this small and relatively quick taco joint. Additionally, the staff was friendly and the drinks were good.

The hubs had the kitchen sink nachos and I had the taco platter. Large tasty portions on both.

HOW does this place not have five freaking stars, from EVERYONE!? :) After a really disappointing dinner our first night in Key West, we were diligent about a totally awesome experience. Mission accomplished. The ambiance is very casual. The seating is cafeteria style and extremely limited. The menu is plentiful and had ample choices for all food types. We started off with the veggie nachos. The quality of every ingredient is top notch. The produce is fresh and of superior quality. We loved everything about our meal. As picky eaters and lovers of high quality food, we would come back in a second. What a great experience!

The fire roasted corn alone is worth it! Tacos and burrito were excellent as well. BF said margarita wasn't so great but the food made up for it.

I can't seem to get enough of this place. It's one of my favorite places to eat in KW. I love that 95% of their menu is gluten free. Everything is delicious. We've gone for lunch and had burrito bowls, had huevos rancheros for breakfast and the coconut rice pudding is SOOOOO delicious! I've made it my entire life without drinking coffee. Love the smell, hate the taste. I had a sip of hubby's café con leche and I was sold. I had to order one of my own, then go back the next day for another. We've tried it other places and it's not nearly as good as Amigos! We ate here at least 4 times during the week we were here!

Boooooooo! You'd think a Mexican restaurant would be able to get a single Mexican dish right, but Taco Bell puts this place to shame. Lipstick on the cup, clearly store bought guacamole, raw fish tacos, just a couple highlights. If you hate things that taste good and love food poisoning, look no further than this dump.

I've been to Key West a few times, and I've noticed that what makes for a good meal here doesn't always factor in the food itself too heavily. If a place has a great setting, cheap prices or good deals and serves fare that is interesting, it's usually pretty popular. Amigos is one of those places that has all of that, plus really delicious food. My friend and I stopped in after a morning of wandering Duval; we were both wanting Mexican and decided to give Amigos a try (it's conveniently located right off Duval). We loved the street-facing counter seats, and immediately claimed two - Amigos is kitty-corner to Sloppy Joes, and the people watching is grade A. The menu is pretty standard in terms of Mexican offerings. Tacos, nachos, burritos - the usual. Their menu has a more build-your-own feel, which I really liked and it has a generous offering of seafood. They also offer square tacos - which, as they claim, hold more and spill less. I got the loaded nachos, my friend got three tacos (you can mix and match what you'd like in them) and we split a side order of chips. The nachos were delicious, and done really well. I especially liked the shredded chicken. All of the ingredients were fresh, and flavorful. Mexican is pretty hard to mess up, so for me it's more in the quality of the ingredients themselves. Our service was great - attentive and speedy. Our meal took maybe a little longer to arrive than we'd expected, but we chalked it up to everything being made fresh to order. Besides that, it was a fairly cheap meal for what we got. Next time I'm in Key West - and I will be back - I will be sure to return to Amigos.

Great tacos and great service. If you want quick food that isn't too expensive (for duval) then I would definitely recommend. Only downside was $10 for a margarita? Kinda weird place to be charging that for a mediocre well margarita I felt but it is Duval street so no worries. I Will definitely be coming back to Amigos

  • Elizabeth D.

Really great Mexican food. Very fresh and authentic. It's just a very small place and it's hard to get seated because there is always a bit if a wait, but it's adorable and you can look out into Greene street and Duvall. It's all open so you get the feeling of being outdoors. The bean burrito is huge! They are known for square tacos. The tortillas are freshly made on the tacos. The food is really, really good! All the staff are amazing and friendly! A must try in Key West!

  • Ella B.

Atmosphere is one of teh best in the Keys! Their tacos are to die for but the fajitas were anything but. The chicken was bland and the tortillas were crumbling. Margaritas were great but the waitress gave me the souvenir cup which was an extra $5 when I asked for a regular margarita.

  • Nathan F.

Wow! The whole family ordered something different and we couldn't decide what was best! Natural food in huge portions! Don't pass up this spot if you can get it. There is limited seating, especially if you have a big party. It is definitely worth the wait if it's super busy.

BAJA FISH TACOS!!!!!! What a pleasant surprise, after a couple of hit & miss meals in Key West, we came across this cute little wooden façade restaurant with two Catrinas (Sugar skulls) and outdoor Bar style seating arrangement. We were greeted by a lovely waitress great service overall. Th e menu is very simple and catered to the tourist crowd. Tacos, Burritos, Burrito Bowls and the Non very Mexican Fajitas!!!! I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos and LOVED them!!!!!!! What a great meal, perfect portions, the fish is done fresh and right... It is topped with Garlic Aioli that is just amazing!!!! They have a great selection of house brand hot sauces and Mexican Coca-Cola.... Vegetarian options are also available!!!! Quick meal for a busy night in town... Go visit Amigos and make some more while in there

Great small spot. Quick service and very tasty meals. Guacamole a bit pricy for the portion. But I would come back.

The food is not good. Friendly staff but all the food sucked. 3 kinds of tacos: chicken, beef, pork - all terrible. Veggie burrito was bland as were beans and crunchy rice. Please shut down.

This is my favorite place to grab food in Key West. The ingredients are all fresh, and the food is fantastic. I love pretty much everything on the menu, but their salads are my favorite. They are incredible. I could eat every meal here!

  • Wendi G.

The service was so slow that we came for breakfast and it was almost lunch by the time we left. The location is perfect and if you sit on the porch you have a great spot to people watch. But that was the highlight. Nothing was very tasty or fresh and the breakfast menu is very limited. The gentlemen next to us said they had breakfast two other times that week and the service was better. Not adding this to my list of "go to" places in Key West.

  • Casey R.

This place is amazing. Why does this have to be a super duper long review in order to get on the review list. No one looks at the tips or whatever they say. Burritos were very good and filling. Margaritas are so so but manageable, than again I'm not huge on margaritas, but have had better. May be a long wait but grab a beer and chips and wait it out.

Stopped here for lunch and to wait out the downpour. Great prices! The menu is straightforward but diverse, and they have square taco shells. Amigo's has a great selection of hot sauces ranging from mild to hot, and all are available right at your table for you to test. We really liked Amigo's Mild, Amigo's Key Lime Habanero, and the Mexican Butt Blaster (although I think the label exaggerates...my butt has remained unblasted). The Amigo's Ghost Pepper sauce is crazy hot! I got the taco platter (choice of three) with one potato and chorizo taco, one chicken taco, and one shrimp taco. The chicken is AMAZING. It also came with rice and refried or black beans, and a side of salsa. My husband ordered a burrito and seemed happy enough. The restaurant itself has indoor and outdoor seating, bar-style, and is very airy and comfortable. We liked the casual atmosphere and the fact that we could hang out for awhile finishing our drinks...we didn't feel rushed and the wait staff didn't hover. Visited September 2014

I was not happy with the food or the service. We ordered chicken meals and are convinced that we got mystery meat. When we asked the server she told us that it was chicken and walked away. I've had better Mexican at Taco Bell. I do not recommend this restaurant. :(

  • Aaron P.

I did not particularly care for their take on enchiladas. They used more tomato sauce than normal. The service was slower than average, as one waitress was handling the whole place. The key lime pie was awesome though.

Best god damn burritos in Key West.

    (4)
  • Laurie S.

If you like your burrito full of rice, then this is your place. Service was terrible!!! All the Coke came from Mexico, couldn't get real Coke. The place was sweaty hot and mediocre food

    (1)

Get the Baja fish taco! It's hands down the best fish taco I have ever had. The salsa is amazing too!

    (5)
  • Jojo F.

Outside of my own kitchen, Amigos really has some of the best tacos in Key West. The chorizo con papas, carnitas, veggies and fish tacos are all great. The carne asada isn't really seasoned like anything so I suggest using salsa. The square corn tortilla is a nifty change and the fact that they're made in house is an added benefit. The service is friendly and quick and the selection of meals for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores is well-rounded. My only request for authenticity would be to have awesome tomato Spanish rice. Other than that, they have a great thing going.

  • Denise W.

Best. Tacos. Period. I have had tacos all over the US and these are the best that I have ever had. My husband has beef hard taco platter and I had carnita soft tacos. Definitely did not disappoint. We spent $30 and it was the best $30 we sort all week. Definitely recommend!!!

  • Amy J.

I don't know if everyone that rated this place 4/5 stars eats at Taco Bell or what, but it is not good. Chicken didn't seem like chicken, I've never had such flavorless chorizo, the rice is big clumps. We didn't get our chips and guacamole until after the food came and the guacamole was store bough Wholly Guacamole. Maybe good drunk food but that's it.

    (1)
  • Travis M.

Stopped in for tacos and was not disappointed. Quick, delicious and reasonably priced given the area. Doesn't have a lot of seating, but service was fast and friendly. I tried the Baja fish taco platter and enjoyed it. The wife had a carnitas burrito bowl (no tortilla) and was also good. Has draft and bottled beer, maybe 6 of each. Also serve margaritas and soft drinks. Would def come back for a meal when I am not feeling like spending big bucks anywhere else on Duval.

I went here with a group late in the night (11 pm) when most other places had stopped serving food and we were hungry! Most of us ordered burritos and the bowls and everyone loved the food. I ordered the chicken burrito and the chicken was some of the best I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly with all the right spices that made it a gastronomic party in my mouth. We also ordered the $6.99 key lime pie combo and the two slices they give out were pretty good. I personally loved the "feedback" they ask for at the end of the meal when they give you the check. It's a little piece of paper with a square and two eyes on it and you're requested to draw a face that exemplifies your experience. The really good sketches are framed and put up all across the restaurant; a very unique marketing strategy! I'm sure I'll go back to this restaurant the next time I'm in town. It seriously brought into question my love for Chipotle!

this place honestly and truly is a piece of sh*t. wow! #1 how is this place in business? #2 how does this place not have only 1 star? (they mustve paid people to leave good reviews) the waitresses have 0 customer service skills & the fish tacos were ABSOLUTELY the worst! I was expecting a place like "La Granja" we had to take our order to go so that we could stay on schedule for the next FURY watersports event up the street. so initially we had'nt realized that we were cond into buying extra dipping sauce which also tasted like sh*t.... (not like an actual turd but perhaps not too far from it?) the size of the fish tacos were the size of my index finger. these were each $10, ridiculously expensive. i wouldve been happy topay 10x's as much if it tasted good but i almost threw up! it was like eating a roll of bread dipped in frying grease. i am very well traveled and have had food from literally hundreds of places. this place really was that bad.... believe me and save yourself an upset stomach and lost cash. I enjoy brazilian steakhouses, new orleans french cuisine, spicy caribbean foods. juicy well season meats AND fruits & well cooked vegeatables All that my girlfriend and I could do is laugh at this place.....if your are going to key west whatever you do, stay the "F@$!" away from AMIGO's

This place is quite unique. I have been to Mexican restaurants that try to be hipster and fail miserably, but this place succeeds. Cool decor, including customer satisfaction cards/t shirts/cups, good food, great service, reasonable prices. It is a bit small though, I mostly observed groups of two at tables.

Let me start by saying that I don't generally like soft corn tortillas but since they serve 'house made square tortillas' I decided I'd give them a try. I had 2 tacos (3.49 each) one carnitas and one shredded beef...Overall they were just ok. The beef was a little dry and they were definitely soggy because of the liquid in the meats and pretty bland. The sangria was just ok as well. The service was good and sitting in the open air window was entertaining of course.

    (3)
  • Kasey B.

Disgusting. Everything was dry and you were only lucky if what you were eating was flavor-LESS because anything that did have flavor tasted putrid with the exception of the guacamole. Taco Bell is better and for that they should be very ashamed. Very. I am leaving one star only because there is no option for zero.

  • Ryan T.

Stopped in this little place after walking up and down Duvall street. Tucked right around the corner in Greene. The Mexican food is made to order and is very good. The frozen margarita was mixed perfectly. We had a party of 8 and we were well taken care of. They had boosters for the little ones. They also have real Mexican soda! Made w pure cane sugar! Food was amazing to say the least, very large portions.

Top 5 for Mexican I have ever been to! I got the chicken tacos with their made fresh on site corn tortillas. Flavor was spot on with a side if beans and rice asks very flavorful. My partner for the 1/2 chicken and roasted corn in the cob. That meal was the star if the show. Amazing!

2nd time visiting and it was even better this time! Service is spectacular, food is delicious, and it's reasonably priced. Will be back when we return to Key West! Thanks Amigos!!

When traveling and you don't have a lot of good gluten-free options, Mexican is usually a safe bet so we had lunch here. Good seating outdoors right across the street from Captain Tony's which provides for good people-watching. I ordered a carnitas taco and a carne asada taco. Their tacos are made with home-made corn tortillas that are squares. Novel, but not really good in practice. The tacos were super soggy, after just one bite my taco completely fell apart and I was eating my taco with a fork. The "hot" salsa is not hot at all and doesn't really taste like much - but they have several bottles of hot sauce so you can overcome that. Overall the fillings were really bland and nothing special. All in all I was happy to eat and not get sick, but for $4/taco, it was not very good. Note: The menu acknowledges gluten by stating "85% of our menu is gluten free". However, none of the items were individually marked and our waitress wasn't sure about some of the fillings and salsas so had to go back and ask a few times. Do not go here thinking you will get authentic Mexican food, but if you are not picky, go for it, but I'd stay away from the soggy tacos. Good people watching and good service.

  • Zach S.

Amazing! Had the yucat n grilled fish and carne asada tacos and both were equally good! The rice has a cilantro paste that is great! Lastly, you can order a 1/2 slice of both Kermit's and Key West Key Lime Pie Company for you to figure out which one you like best!! A must go!!! They have an overall hipster vibe which is eclectic and makes you feel appreciated!

  • Patti R.

Excellent. Good service on a busy weekend. Food was great. Really Tasty shrimp bowl, small but packed tacos were delicious, juciy flavorful chicken quesadilla were large enough to share. Prices are very reasonable , though 2 bucks for tiny side of Guacamole ( tasty but tiny) was a bit unfair. Margarita was not your classic recipe, maybe orange juice or something. I Returned mine and my friend threw hers out. But the good food and service and location made up for that. I'd go back again.

amigos rocks it gets it right, its not pretending to be more than comfort and tastey. And to the reviewer who said a chain was better ? Thats so wrong. I had the breakfast taco no meat the guac was so yummy and the refrieds perfect. So grab a bar stool do a little people watch and enjoy. Your in Key West hang a little no rush!!

Amazing place for dinner, drinks, or a snack. Combo fish tacos were really good. Rice and beans pretty near perfect. Beers cold and service was great. Will definitely be back soon.

Stopped here for lunch. Ordered the chicken quesodilla, got the beef. It was still pretty good. Lots of great hot sauces to test out, which is kinda my thing. There wasn't really anything special about it, though. I also had a margarita that cost more than either meal. 10 dollar Margarita day! That was a huge mistake. Oh well. Can't win 'em all.

Amazing little place! Get the carnitas tacos! O..M..G! I have been craving these since I left! Breakfast was awesome too! Seriously cannot go wrong here!! The service was great, prices are great compared to other Key West places and worth every penny. I will go back for this place alone.

We were recommended here by fellow resort neighbors. What a great suggestion. For a while, even before this trip, we have been searching for a Mexican place with freshly prepared tortillas. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. Amigos has them. And they're square. Really. The party had chicken tacos which were highly recommended. I had veggie fajitas and a Baja Mahi taco. The taco first: Local caught mahi fried in beer batter mixed with cotija cheese and other fillings. As good as it sounds. The fajitas were some of the best veggie platters I've ever seen. Name a great vegetable, it was in there, all mixed with a unique spice blend. With fresh tortillas composed of two ingredients: corn and water. That's it, and wonderful. Served with a cilantro lime rice blend and refried beans, it was a complete meal. But that's not including the spicy sauces. Of which they had numerous. Try them all, and if you're brave enough, give the ghost pepper a shot. Just keep a fresh tortilla handy. In true Key West atmosphere, it's a roadside high top setup with big fans, suitable even for the summer nights. Stop in and visit Amigos, you won't be disappointed.

I love Mexican and didn't love this... it was middle of the road... we went for lunch the meats were dried out and not a lot of flavor... had the pork, chicken and beef... chicken I liked better than the rest and I liked the refried beans being vegetarian, the rice was well seasoned and excellent selection of hot sauces. One person had their steak bowl and really loved it so I would recommend that.

I can't understand why this place has such great reviews. We were shoved into a tiny counter space with 6 other people and the food was average at best. I got nachos, and they reminded me of the "Dorm Room Nachos" we made in college where you get cheap tortilla chips, some shredded cheese and put them in the microwave. Husband got 3 different types of tacos and liked the chorizo one best, by far. Not terrible, but also not worth your time when there are dozens of other places nearby that are much better.

Awesome little spot for lunch!!! Homemade corn tortillas, the shrimp tacos were phenomenal! Fire roasted corn was amazing, could've eaten that twice at least... Mexican fried potatoes and nachos were delish too! Carne asada tacos, quesadillas, all of it was fast, excellent street style food. The service was great - the girls there were absolutely wonderful! Gave us great recommendations on where to snag the best local key lime pie and coffee, so I'll love them forever for that :) This was a great time - even bought a shirt.... Fun fun lunch spot!!!!

Place is really close to the best of Duval St. We had the chicken nachos and square tacos. The beef tacos are really good. The margaritas are great! For three of us to eat and have a couple drinks was only about $50 bucks. This was the cheapest meal we had on key west but better than dinners that cost two-three times more. Enjoy!

It is very difficult to find really good Mexican food while in Key West, the few that used to exist have seem to gone out of business. If you don't mind being down in the tourist side of town, its a great place to stop for some pretty authentic Mexican food. They offer a decent selection of beer to chose from which should be enjoyed while sitting outside during your people watching adventures. Keep in mind its directly across from Captain Tony's, be sure to watch everyone throwing their quarter into the grouper mouth. Their nachos are very tasty if you are in the mood for a snack, their guacamole doesn't taste homemade but it is still very good. The prices are very reasonable here which is also a great positive. Key West bar tabs seem to add up very quickly if not done right. Enjoy!

Mexican style: burritos, tacos, quesadillas; food was okay. They serve margaritas but they're not very good. The frozen mix machine was broken so could have a frozen margarita. Service was okay.

Best Mexican food in the Keys! Very baja-by the beach tacos and burritos. Get the tacos with carnitas are very different, unexpected, cinnamony! Don't miss the fish tacos and quesadillas. Even though you're right across the street from Capt Tonys, the margaritas at Amigos are the best! Better than Sloppy Joe's too! Waitstaff is super friendly and attentive!

Why 5 stars, because this place rocks!!! Location, service, FOOD!! If you are in KW and don't stop here then you missed the best Mexican food this town has to offer, or I at least haven't found one better. Menu offers square tacos and a wide variety of proteins, fantastic beans, soups, burritos. On and on I can't get enough of this place. Everything is prepared fresh everyday and the flavors are just amazing. Just the right blend of spice, seasoning to go with that protein choice. The presentation isn't fancy but it's darn near elegant.

I saw a review of this restaurant on "Dinner, Dine Inns and Dives". I'm not sure what they paid him for that review or not but the food was not great. It was okay but I've definitely tasted betterMexican food. The service was poor at best. Would not recommend this as a restaurant to visit when you go to the Florida Keys.

Solid but, not spectacular Mexican food just off Duval. We went for breakfast with mixed results. My breakfast burrito was very good. The house made hot salsa was killer! My wife's Migas were just ok. They didn't fry the tortillas enough to get them crispy. They we just kinda soft and mixed in with the eggs. Portions were huge and the service was good.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Amigos. My friends and I stopped in the other day after a long day at the beach. Our server was super friendly and helpful and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The carnitas here are wonderful and my burrito was gigantic. Lucky me, I got to have my leftovers today and will most likely pay them another visit before I leave the island.

We ate here during Fantasy Fest. We sat in the area that is open & facing the street. We had front row view of all the chaos! I had chicken fajitas & my hubby had a burrito. The food was good. The margaritas were great. Nice selection of hot sauces. Thanks Yelp for another good recommendation!

We went to Amigos last night, a Friday, with a large group and it was delicious! The food came out very quick! Our chips and salsa was just okay. The salsa seemed very watered down, but for two dollars it's a good snack. We also got carnitas tacos which were pretty good, simple and fresh.

We ordered three tacos, carnitas, beef and mahi mahi they came in the restaurants own specialty square corn tortillas, the flavor of the marinated meat and fish was impeccable, the hot sauce options was impressive and the portion size was perfect to split!

Stopped in for a quick bite after Mallory Square. It was good and the people were super nice, even to the demanding woman at the next table who could not be pleased with anything!

This place was amazing. Super laid back and awesome spot to grab a quick lunch. I got a chicken burrito and my boyfriend had the pork one. They were SO flavorful and delicious. It was the best meal we had the entire trip we took to Key West. So good we had to come back the next morning and try ourselves some breakfast burritos. Once again did not disappoint. They even have imported Coca-Cola from Mexico with real cane sugar instead of corn syrup. It was a fun little experience and tasted the way a Coke truly should taste. Great service from the staff as well. We will definitely come back next time.

The fish tacos were great! Loved sitting and looking out to sidewalk. Service was good and food was yummy. Place to go for Mexican in Key West.

Came here with two friends- one got the burrito bowl, the other the Baha fish tacos. The latter was delicious! We also started with the guac, which was also excellent. I got the burrito, which I enjoyed, although I didn't want a burrito. I was craving those enchiladas, which I ordered. Our waiter stepped outside to smoke, and when he returned he came from the kitchen and said my friends orders were ready, but he's been gone for two days and didn't know they were out of enchilada sauce, so I had to order something else. Kind of ridiculous. If the food weren't so delicious they would have lost more stars.

I am not so easily pleased when it comes to Mexican. Actually, scratch that. I am super duper easily pleased with anything covered in cheese and slathered in salsa. However, I am not so easily impressed. Amigos impressed me. After reading the stellar yelp reviews, I was annoying as shit, bugging my friends about eating here for the entirety of my vaycay; I was not leaving the island without wrapping my lips around one of these highly praised tacos. Last day of the trip and I finally get my fix. Man oh man. Yumm. We went in around 11:30 and they were still serving breakfast, like legit breakfast. My friend ordered the french toast with bacon and it looked really delicious and she said it tasted just that. I opted for two chicken tacos and holy guacamole, definitely up there with some of the best tacos I've eaten. They had some kind of spicy chipotle sour creme (?) on top that was extra good and the ingredients were really fresh, the chicken super tender and flavorful and the taco was stuffed to capacity. The waitress told me the tacos were pretty small, so I ordered 2. One probably would have done the trick and two put me a little over the edge, yes the delicious homemade soft shells might have been small, but they were stuffed! For 12 bucks including tax and tip, I got my two tacos and a Mexican coke and walked out a happy girl. Props for having a gluten free menu as well as everything being vegetarian.. well until you add meat or cheese of course. Totally recommend.

Best Nachos and Baja Fish Tacos we have ever had...both set extremely light and did not leave you feeling over stuffed; fish melted in your mouth. Nacho portion is huge...unless you bring your appetite I would suggest sharing with your significant other! Service is outstanding, quick and friendly. All for a very low price.

Loved the Baja fish tacos. Great value and casual atmosphere. Friendly service. definitely a must do on our next trip to the keys.

  • Karen R.

Great for Gluten Free diners since 95% of their menu is gf. They also make their own corn tortillas using just corn and water. The carne asada and carnitas were delicious! Only issue was that their corn chips are fried in the same oil as their flour items so no nachos for me.

  • Teresa T.

Food was okay, but over-priced. They charged extra for ONIONS. The service was terrible.

Yummy tacos - and great focus on quality ingredients, homemade tortillas etc. If they have the wahoo, get it. Delish. Jacque is an awesome server. Just nice. I appreciate that!

  • John M.

Ok fish tacos. The corn tortilla machine was broken when we were there so we didn't get to try square taco. Service was good. Had grilled ah I tacos with pineapple slaw and Baja fish tacos. I would go back but next time get the nachos. Table next to us had them and they looked awesome.

    (3)
  • Jen S.

Good food, drinks and service at a reasonable price! The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because my enchiladas were served with white rice and the beans weren't that great. Enchiladas were excellent!

  • Pushkar G.

Like everyone said here, the seating is amazing. What more amazing is- THE FOOD!. Spicy salsa is real deal. Hot as key west in peak summer. Baja fish taco was awesome.

  • Grace O.

We stopped in for some brunch takeout after a few hours out on the water and it was yummy! My boyfriend ordered the breakfast burrito which he really liked and I ordered the mijas which I would highly recommend. Mine was cheaper than his though and as much food or more! If you don't know mijas are eggs scrambled with chopped up corn tortillas, cheese and onion & peppers. It was delicious and super filling. If you're choosing your sides though double up on the refried beans, the best I've ever had! Skip the breakfast potatoes they had too much rosemary seasoning for something.

  • Damian V.

I had the fish bowl, it's also available with chicken or beef. I recommend get it grilled with baja sauce. YUM!

  • Sarah K.

We're from LA, and so we usually try to avoid Mexican places while traveling, since they won't compare with our Angeleno food. But Amigos was different! Sit at the outside bar facing Captain Tony's-great people watching! It's inexpensive, and the food is fantastic. We always come here after a long day on the water or snorkeling. Tacos are great, the nachos are yummy and the burritos huge. Everything is fresh, clean and delicious!

    (5)
  • Dawn S.

Decent. The rice was a little dry, and the tacos, guac, and beans were all fairly plain. But the price is right, the location is convenient for those touring key west, and there is a plethora of hot sauce options (some better than others).

    (3)
  • Jennifer K.

The best chicken and carnitas tacos I've ever ate! Definitely would come here again. Food and service was quick. I'd skip the platter and just order individual tacos. Guacamole was really good. Everyone in my group loved their meal!

    (5)
  • I O.

The burritos are excellent! Made to order and there is no shortage of hot sauce. Sit outside and people watch walk to the street.

  • Ty C.

This place sucks!!!! Order beef and chicken fajitas and there was little to know meat and 3 tortillas show up with it and no salsa. Also ordered additional cheese that was charged to us and the portion was a joke. If you want a terrible experience please visit here. I would rather go out and pick crap with the chickens in KW than give this gong show of a "Mexican restaurant" my money again !!

    (1)
  • Karl C.

Very tasty "square" tacos. Just 1/2 block off Duval Street. Great place for people-watching. I had the beef, chicken, and pork tacos. The beef was so-so, but the chicken and pork were amazing. My dining companion had the 3 different fish tacos, and said they all were great. It was so good, we went back a few days later! Seating is a bit limited.

We were with the cruise ship in Key West. Decided to grab a quick lunch between the tours, and it turns out to be the worst service i ever had! First we seated and the server didnt even bring us water, it's 30 degree outside. Then when i asked questions about menu she just told us she will come back when i will be ready... So instead of asking her i pull out the Yelp and started looking at reviews and pictures. She comes back 2 minutes later and i told her i was still not ready. So she decided to take her time and not come back at all. We waited 15 minutes and told other 2 servers that we wanted to order. They said they will send her over. Finally we ordered the food, and it was a different person servicing us with food and drinks. She never came back to ask us how we doing, only with the check. Which included 18% of gratuity to the check. On the menu it stated that they charge gratuity to people with party of 4 and more, we had 2 people. Normally we would of just paid it if the service is ok and because it is Florida, but the service was just not worst it, why should i tip her almost $5 for only being rude and taking notes on the order and bringing the check? She did not even bring the food to us. We waited for 5 minutes and no one came, so i took the check to find the cashier and ask why would the graturity included. There was not a cashier and 2 servers asked me is it ok, so i told them about service and gratuity, they did not know why would she put it and i should ask her. So finally i found her and saw her talking to the manager. Instead of talking to me while i walk towards them, she turned around and left. So manager asked me what i wanted. So i told him about gratuity put on the check of 2 people. He was really rude, and just told me that "we put that because people do not tip!" There was no apologies for bad service. I just could not hold to write this review. DONT LET IT RUIN THE IMAGE AND EXPERIENCE OF BEAUTIFUL KEY WEST!

So tasty! My boyfriend and I made a quick pit stop here while in Key West and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and the friendly service. We got a taco platter with chicken and beef tacos as well as a side of guac. All of it was excellent! I loved the tortillas and overall it was a fun place to hang out and get a quick snack. Highly recommended!

  • David G.

First, great people watching spot! BUT, food is not worth it. Chips are bland, salsa lacks deep flavor. Had 3 taco's. Yucatan fish and chicken were ok and carnitas the best of the. the square shell broke apart from the juice. The rice was cold, beans warm but not that flavorful.

Ate here twice in 2 days. It's that good. Great people watching too. Dare your friend to try the ghost pepper sauce. I enjoyed the burrito bowl with chicken, and my friend the beef square tacos. Great on both!

We (family of four) were tired of the same ol', same ol' at Key West. Amigos was the perfect change of pace for us. Lots of options. Excellent food (housemade corn tortillas, beef enchildas, grilled chicken, street corn, shrimp quesadilla, beef tacos, sangira). Nice waitress. Fast service. Cool atmosphere. LOVED IT!!

    (5)
  • Ruth C.

They make their own corn tortillas, which is a big deal and absolutely necessary in order to make authentic tasting food. Their tacos were delicious. I was super impressed and could not believe such a place existed in Florida. I'd go back any day.

  • Andrew A.

Smack dab in the middle of the tourist trap section of Key West is a Mexican restaurant with some vegetarian options. The service was mediocre (slightly rude, clueless about vegan/gluten free options even though they advertise them), the food was bland (oily vegetables in tortillas), and the atmosphere felt like a chain restaurant, no personality whatsoever. But the food wasn't terrible given our limited options, and it was overpriced, but that's to be expected in this area. The hot sauce collection was kinda cool. I give it a resounding "meh".

    (3)
  • Keila M.

Thee best nachos (with cheese and pico de gallo) that you'll ever taste! Also, the chicken tacos are to die for! Such a great idea to stop by Amigos! :P

  • John F.

I was told this was one of the best places for Mexican food in Key West. Well I think the bar must be set pretty low. Grant it I ate there after consuming multiple cocktails at the local saloons, but it still I expected better. Fish tacos were too fishy, and the other tacos were so so at best. They made a big deal about their square tacos but square or round they still didn't taste too good. Someone in our group had a burrito, that was better but still would rate it a 3 out of 5. I might want to try this place again before I drink a bottle of vodka too see if I feel the same!

  • J L.

Amigos is our must go to restaurant every time we are downtown. Great authentic Mexican fare. A unique dining environment. Cold beers! The prices are in line with the area. They will deliver however, I prefer to people watch as the location is one of the best views in town. All in all Amigos gets 5 stars.

    (5)
  • Carol T.

So glad I ate here. The salsa was great- just the way I like it. I ate a variety of street tacos (pork, beef, fish). My favorite was the carnitas. Had a unique flavor. I ended ordering a second one.

    (5)
  • Kevin C.

Mediocre tacos. Cool spot with a good theme and decor but the food doesn't reach the bar. Ordered a selection of tacos (fish, carnitas, brisket and one other), they were all so so. Would really rather have chipotle. Sangria was awful. Wouldn't eat there again.

    (3)
  • Joanna M.

Great option for a quick and cheap meal, beer, and people watching on their open air dining area on the porch! Definitely would recommend the square tacos (had the fish, carnitas, and carne asada meal option offering 3 square tacos with side of rice and beans- delicious!) Fish tacos very refreshing and the Carnitas were my favorites. There is a huge selection of hot sauces to try (even hot hot hot you may wanna sign a waiver hot). Make sure to save room for the duo Kermits and Key West Key Lime Pie for dessert because you simply cannot go to Key West without eating some key lime pie! Tacos and pies?! Yes please! Would def come back!

  • Lisa A.

  • TJ H.

    (2)
  • Zach S.

  • Jesse T.

  • Daniel K.

Ate dinner here, they say us immediately, services us promptly, and made great suggestions. Everyone from manager to bus server check to make sure everything was to our liking. Food was really great. Try the corn on cob.

Had the carnitas burrito. Was pretty good paired with a nice Sam Adams Octoberfest. Fish tacos looked good as well, will have to try those next time.

  • Coot W.

    (5)

Amigos is our must go to restaurant every time we are downtown. Great authentic Mexican fare. A unique dining environment. Cold beers! The prices are in line with the area. They will deliver however, I prefer to people watch as the location is one of the best views in town. All in all Amigos gets 5 stars.

    (4)
  • Danielle J.

    (5)

  • Ronald S.

Horrible. Rude. Tried to get a table and apparently it was a problem for the waitress to seat us. Go elsewhere for a bite to eat. There are plenty of places who would love your business.

    (4)

Had the Baja fish, chicken and shrimp tacos here on flour and they were absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that's vacationing here. Music is good too!

yayy nice authentic food with home made tortillas. we were visiting key west on a vacation after having fun in beach and water sports having an amazing grilled fish burrito with a beer was just adding more reasons to visit key west often :) Good ambiance, interesting staff with never ending energy to serve people..

    (5)
  • Matthew K.

We came back here after the first time, so that says a lot. The baja fish tacos are nice and my girlfriend really enjoyed the margarita. Service depends on which server you get, we had a good one the first time and an average one the second time.

    (4)
  • Tracey R.

Great burritos!!! We would love it more if they at least gave you a few chips with your burrito. It was not in the restaurant, so if you need a break from the Florida heat this place does not offer relief but the burritos are tasty!

  • Chelsea L.

    (5)
  • Raymond M.

Good people watching, if you can get street seating. Fresh tacos. Fish tacos with mahi mahi were excellent. Hot version is not so hot, but plenty of hot sauces available to amp it up.

  • Jennifer S.

  • Charlie S.

Fantastic!

Ate there a few nights ago and it was wonderful. The food was very fresh tasting. Tasted authentic. Very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place. Nothing fancy just good food and good prices.

Haven't found another place in Key West that has a better hot sauce selection. Yummy homemade corn tortillas. Can't wait to come back!

I'm a sucker for a late night burrito and after the mayhem of Duval street, this place hit the spot. Not the best burrito ever, but pretty tasty. I had the carnitas which I thought were really good. They have a much larger menu normally, but they are open late which was really all I was after.

Everything is superb from the location, atmosphere, and service and most importantly the food. Best veggie nachos EVER, Best breakfast burrito EVER...and ETC ETC......tortillas are FRESH FRESH as everything......wish had one of these near my home.....would b there at least 3 times a week.......

  • Shaun S.

YUM!

Good tacos, excellent salsa (the hot salsa really is hot), fast service. The outdoor seating is great for people watching. And it makes me happy that the tortillas are square; the round tortilla is so tacky and over done.

Love.This.

YUM!

    (4)

  • Vince L.

Across the street form Capt Tony's and Sloppy Joes. Great tacos. Better to walk over and eat and then go back to partying. Nice to be able to get some good eats late at night rather than the typical pub fare.

  • Rebecca K.

These guys have amazing food at reasonable price. Three people can buy 2 enchiladas and share and its filling.

Absolutely one of the best places to eat in Key West!!! Great food, fresh ingredients, a must for any trip to Key West, for lunch our a casual bite to eat. And you can't beat the view for people watching - we ate there twice the food was just sooo good!!!!!

  • Chanel G.

  • Tom L.

  • Zach S.

    (4)

    (5)

    (5)

    (3)

Enjoy.

Handmade tortillas are their claim to fame. They are corn - not flour tortillas. The carne asada was good. My friend had a fish taco and a beef taco. He recommends the fish taco over the beef.

Best Mexican in the Keys. Amigos was amazing. We stopped in for a late night quesadilla and were floored. They had a tremendous selection of sauces and the Mexican bottled Coca-Cola (none of that American HFCS-laden junk) was icing on the cake.

Super atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and really good food. The salsa was impressively good. Would go back again! And it's totally cool that they have bar-style seating facing the street.

Neat idea.

Atmosphere is one of teh best in the Keys! Their tacos are to die for but the fajitas were anything but. The chicken was bland and the tortillas were crumbling. Margaritas were great but the waitress gave me the souvenir cup which was an extra $5 when I asked for a regular margarita.

Wow! The whole family ordered something different and we couldn't decide what was best! Natural food in huge portions! Don't pass up this spot if you can get it. There is limited seating, especially if you have a big party. It is definitely worth the wait if it's super busy.

Went for lunch - awesome! Everything was good and fresh... Had fried fish taco, grilled fish tacos, chicken taco, beef taco, and pork taco. All were fantastic. Highly recommend for lunch.

Four of us stopped in and had tacos. Food was fast and fresh. Baja tacos were excellent. Prices for Key West were not too bad. I would eat here again for sure.

  • Laurie S.

If you like your burrito full of rice, then this is your place. Service was terrible!!! All the Coke came from Mexico, couldn't get real Coke. The place was sweaty hot and mediocre food

He said it was chicken with his Eurotrash Whoops can't say that. ..then the owner comes over And I get more crap about chicken that goes Moo That's the owner saying that. .remember the 4and5 Stars are to be ignored. .really

  • Wesley P.

  • Stefani D.

Tacos are delicious! Chips and tortillas are freshly made and really great. I wouldn't order the Guac- maybe try the salsa. Guac tastes like wholly guacamole and looks like it too. I would recommend this for small groups, bar seating for all.

    (4)
  • David A.

  • Chiki A.

Out of this world, homemade Mexican!!! Small but worth the wait to be seated!! Their roasted corn is out of this world.... Salads are fresh and the "square" tacos were as fresh as they come. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
